I am trying to decide between a Sony RM-VL1000 Remote and the MX-500, I like the MX-500 better but I noticed on the MX-500 there seems to be only 3 buttons M1, M2 and M2 for macros..my question are they the only 3 buttons you can program a macro on (besides power) or can you program the 10 buttons up top beside the LCD and give the macros a custom label like you can in the Sony RM-VL1000, or are you confined to the M1-M3 and power buttons for the macros with the MX-500?
Thanks a lot, Ed,

You can have a "press-and-hold" macro on each of the 10 LCD buttons.
But, normally the label would be the name of your device.
However, if you don't have all ten devices filled, you can use the LCD "press-and-hold" macros for anything you want and put the corresponding label beside it.
Also, the Power On and System Off buttons can be macros, but then you lose the ability to have them as Power On and System Off buttons for each device. However, you can put the Power On/Off buttons inside the device itself.
So, you have a total of 15 possible macros on the MX-500.
A quick read of the review on this site will give you a bit more info on this.
