Hi Folks!

I just picked up one of these remotes and I have yet to figure out how to get it to recognize 2 buttons before an enter. For example, I want to turn on light # 12. So I input 1, then 2 and hit On. It only recognizes the 2. So it seems that I can only control single digit devices. Is there a work around for this problem w/o using the macro keys?

Thanks!
-John

John,

X-10 doesn't work that way. It's not listening for 2 codes, just one. "12" is a single button press, but I don't believe it's actually pre-programmed in the MX-500 from the factory. Only 1-10 (using the numbers). I could be mistaken, it's been ages since I programmed the MX-500 for X-10. But I know this for certain - it'll always be a single code for the number. Never two codes (1 and 2 for 12. It's '12')

I think you will have to learn any device code above "9" to one of the buttons from another remote. Most One for All remotes (and radioshack I think) use:
zero key = 10
Rewind = 11
Play = 12
FFwd =13
record = 14
stop = 15
pause = 16
POWER = All lights on
Mute = All units off
Vol up = Bright
vol Dn = Dim
I don't remember if these codes are assigned on the'500.

Thanks Dave!

So the question would be then, how do you get the 12 to initiate?

ONEAC -

Yes, some of the buttons mimic the X-10 remote. I tried the play thing, but ng. The volume is the dim and the channel is the on/off as is on the X10 remote. Only difference it the X-10 remote uses 2 digits as I have to hit 1 then 2 to activate device 12. Have to try some of the others I guess... Thanks...

Why not get a cheap Radioshack remote and learn the codes from it. When you're done return the cheap remote to Radioshack (use you own battries) they have a "30 day no questions asked" return policy. Or you could just take your 500 to the store and ask them to let you learn the codes in the store.

Heck, just bring your MX-500 into the store and you can probably learn the codes in about a minute and walk out :)

Why would I need another remote to have it learn from? I have the actual X10 TV remote type. If I aim the x10 remote at the mx in learn mode, will the mx recognize multiple button pushes from the x10 remote before it saves? Cause if so, that's my answer...

John,

X-10 remotes are generally RF, not IR, though they have produced a few IR remotes, so it can't hurt to try.

Most of the X10 remotes can be changed from RF to IR. It doesn't matter what remote you use the IR543 will not accept 1,2 as 12.

If you send "1" "2" "off", units #1 and #2 will turn off. X-10 can address multiple units this way. I guess the X-10 RF remote is a bit different.

Just a follow up - Evidently the Pronto holds these codes in single strokes... I just set the 500 to learn from that and now I can do above 11. Thanks gang!

With IR543 codes, you have two different sets:

Plain numbers (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc)
Commands (ON, OFF, DIM UP, DIM DOWN, etc)

and...

Numbered Commands (1 OFF, 1 ON, 2 OFF, 2 ON, etc)

I prefer using the latter, especially in macros. The codes are most easily found in a Pronto .ccf file.
