The Costco option sounds like a pretty good deal.
Which version do they sell (GS2 I hope...)?

Did y'all notice they also have the MX1000 for
199.99?

Well, since these remotes are shipped directly from URC and not from Costco, then I would assume they would be the latest versions of these remotes, unless URC still has a bunch of the older ones in their warehouses.

URC doesn't have any of the old remotes in their warehouses. The remotes move far too fast for that.

Greg,
I'm not new to RC, but I am new to the URC forum. I've seen a few of your posts before, so I have a question. How is it you know so much about URC? Do you or have you worked for them or something?

I do not work for them, but like their products. I have had an "association" with them since just before the MX-1000 came out. I liked it so much that I contacted the company, and we've been conversing ever since. But, I converse with them primarily as a user, with the user in mind. However, I learn a few things here and there that is privileged information.

I know a few of the people there and converse with them on a fairly regular basis, and you (the Remote Central user) know what I am allowed to tell you (unless someone else has some inside information that they post).

For more info, do a search on my name and "URC" and "relationship" or "work" or "HTM" and "work, etc. I go into greater detail in a couple of those posts, since people have asked me this before.

Ah, thanks for the info. I just can't wait for the dang thing to get here. Ordered it last Thursday and paid for express shipping, so I'm hoping it gets here by Wednesday at the latest. Having doubts though, I talked to Kris from the post above via e-mail. He bought his the day before me and his hasn't shipped yet.

Hmm. I place my order on 12/4 as well and have heard nothing from Costco on shipping. Perhaps it is because, as someone above said, they ship directly from HTM?

Has anyone got their MX-500 from costco.com yet? How long did it take?

For all the good info I've received from this site I decided to NOT buy from Costco and buy from one of the sponsors instead. AVSmarts is offering a $10 discount on orders over $125. My remote is due to arrive today. They have been excellent to order from. They responded to my email within 30 minutes. Sometimes you save a buck by spending a buck.

I placed my order for two MX-500s from Costco late on Thursday 11/28. They shipped from Oklahoma City late evening on Monday 12/02. They arrived here in my NY (Long Island) office on Wednesday 12/04.

One has already been programmed for my computer room system, and the other is being presented to my father-in-law for Christmas.

I too would generally rather order my goods from those that provide such excellent service (I paid bust-out retail for my first MX-500 and for the subsequent MX-700), however sometimes a deal is a deal. I've been a Costco customer since 1989 and Costco has earned my business with their excellent return policy.

Chas.

That actually was why I was buying the MX500 from costco. They have the best price (in this case) AND they have EXEMPLARY customer service at their B&M stores.... unfortunately it doesn't look like this service continues to their internet presence.

I guess I won't be ordering via their internet site again. Atleast I have their return policy at a B&M store once I finally get the MX500! :)

Just for your information, Costco is NOT buying MX-500's directly from URC/HTM, nor is HTM shipping directly from their warehouses for Costco. Costco is buying from a distributor.

Well, my MX-500 just came to the door thanks to those boys in brown. :-) Four business days from order to door!!

Weird thing is, Costco's web site still said just an hour ago, that the order was in process. I was starting to get pissed, because I had ordered it last Thursday. I guess this is due to the fact, that although I ordered it through Costco's web site, the remote actually shipped from the manufacturer/distributor. Anyway, I'm glad it's finally here. I'll give my breif review in a day or two. Off to program my new toy. :-)

P.S. mdknapp This means you should get your's tonight or tomorrow.

Also, I believe I did get the latest GS2 model, because it has the new shared MX-700 case with the bump on the side for the missing PC connection.

deepthinker: Have a look at the post above yours about where your remote came from - the distributor.

The way you can tell the new GS2 model is not by the bump on the side, but by the raised circle in the middle of the thumbpad. It is not there on the GS1 model.

You're going to enjoy your new toy for a LONG time to come! :-)

It's the new GS2 model. Wife had control of all entertainment tonight, so I couldn't test. :-) I did notice that the manual had the wrong information on how to change the backlight delay. Manual must be behind or ahead of the remote. Manual says to hold MAIN and ENTER keys at the same time for 3 seconds and then hit the LIGHT button. I did that, but didn't see the screen they showed in the manual for changing the delay. I happened to notice that there was a LIGHT label in the list at the bottom left LCD button. This took me to the screen the manual depicted. So, either the manual is wrong, or the remote is newer than the manual.

When it said to "press the LIGHT button", they mean the LCD button that's labeled "LIGHT", not the button on the side of the remote that has the same name. It would be clearer if the manual said to "press the LCD button labeled LIGHT". The manual's been the same in that regard since the MX-500 first came out, so it's always been less than precise in the description.

I have one word for the MX-500. WOW :-) I've only programmed one device so far, but I can already say this is the best and last remote I will ever own!! It's ease of setup is amazing and I love the ergonomics. The 5 way rocker works just fine to me and the select/enter on it is just right. Thanks so much to all of the MX-500 fans who have posted how great this remote is. My only regret is that I didn't buy it a year ago when I bought the Philips Pronto. :-) But, I guess it worked out for the better, because I have the latest version of the remote. Thanks also for all the tips on new setup. I AUX 155'd all the devices and even went so far as to delete every single label on the thing including the FAVS, so I can set it up exactly the way I want it. Once again thanks. Off to finish programming my new best friend.

P.S.- The WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor) is great!! She hated the Pronto, but fell in love with this one as soon as I took it out of the box. Thanks URC for making such a great remote!!!
