I used to sell electronics, and I know for a fact that you are not allowed to take even one penny off the MSRP of Bose and Nakamichi products. Isn't this price fixing? If this practice is illegal, how can companies like these get away with it?

prerogative

What do I owe you for the spelling lesson? I always thought this word was perogative. Your post caught my eye, so I started looking around for some evidence.
  • Dictionary.com lists only prerogative.
  • Bobby Brown (of New Edition fame) spells it perogative.
  • I found the truth (and you're correct) at [Link: wsu.edu]
Thanks for the schooling :)

Bobby Brown is a crack-head dumbass.

And, DJ has never read the constitution, because it doesn't say a damned thing about anything other than the *very few* specified functions of the federal government.

We can do it my way, or we can do it my way while I yell. The choice is yours.

Thank you, Greg - I guess it's sometimes hard to catch the implied overtones on text :-).

BTW, Ahl is right. I don't recall ever reading the constitution top to bottom, though I did read about it in school :-).

Cheers,

If people are dumb enough to think Bose makes good speakers............ They are dumb enough to overpay for them as well.

Here is a bit of info on how they market their so called great speakers to the uninformed. And why they don't offer "deals", at the places that sell them.

Here's how one E-tailer handles MAP (and it isn't Ebay)-

"On this web site, many of our product pages do not contain our selling price. Instead we ask you to add the item to your cart, so that you can either place an order, or see the price you would pay if you were to place an order. We are often asked why we display our products this way.

We do this because many of the manufacturers whose products we sell have now instituted a MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) Policy. Basically this policy states that we cannot advertise a price lower than their stated MAP price for each product. Since our entire business is online-based, this puts is an awkward position because we want to sell you products below this MAP price. Although we have been forced to remove many of these lower prices from our web pages, these manufacturers cannot dictate our actual SELLING price to you, so we now have you enter our shopping cart, which provides no features which can be construed as "advertising" so that you can either buy the product, or see the price you would pay if you did order it.

We understand that these policies were developed to maintain a pricing structure so that products would not be "sold at too low of a price. However, we feel that this does a disservice to the customer, and also hurts smaller retailers."

BTW-They have the MX-700 for much less than $400.

I know who you're talking about, but his price on the MX-700 is right out there for all to see. You don't have to put it in your basket to find out the price.
I agree with his comments on MAPs, but unfortunately unless he removes that price, I imagine he'll be getting cut off soon as well. :(

If it gets posted here. HTM will cut them off. There are spys here that will report back to HTM on such things.
Just do a search on the net, I did and I found places that sell them for less, and it was not a Ebay seller either. Don't expect someone else to do your shopping for you, it's not that hard to do yourself. LOOK, and you will find it!

That's funny. You say posting the website here will make HTM cut them off? Then you tell everyone just to do a search on the net so they can find the sites that sell for less. Do you think HTM can't do that?

That's too funny!

I suspect HTM has better things to do than search the web looking for good prices on MX-700s. Of course, I could be wrong -- perhaps they have someone who's sole job is to do this. Bose certainly does, and that seems to be the marketing model they are attempting to follow with this line.

On the other hand, when they are directly contacted by someone with a complaint, it creates a situation they feel they must handle.

And lets try to keep the appends a little less personal. This used to be a friendly place before all of this MX-700 pricing stuff started. Now it seems that people are being attacked and made fun of just for talking about it and expressing their opinions (on both sides). Very distasteful.

If I find something funny, I'll say so.

Notice the name of this thread? That alone opens things up for a lively discussion.

Also, it takes little time to search the net for etailers who are going against policy. If they really wanted to, it would be easy for them to find these sites. They obviously don't want to. So, the whole "spy" thing is funny! You may not agree.

Also, things don't always come across in text like they do when heard in real life. If I knew Johnla and he was my best buddy, I'd rib him the same way I did on here.

Best wishes to all!

P.S. Johnla is free to email me and work things out if I have offended him.
