Trying to program mx500 for a 8 year old sony 32" TV. Got the 8811 and searched for and got list of sony discrete codes ( said was for pronto but guess the same for mx500) Tried programing the 8811 for power off so could learn button to MX500. On the 8811 used the TV device button to try to learn the power off code. Turned TV on and tried all the listed TV codes learning to the 8811 TV button. Could not get TV to turn off with the 8811.
Am I doing something wrong??
Thanks for any replys.

Sony TVs usually work with code 0000. Then, you need to enter the advanced codes to get your discrete on/off. Check out the information on this at www.hifi-remote.com

Still dont understand. You use the discrete code oooo to say program the TV button on 8811 then use a advance code to program another button for TV off? The site above did list advance codes but did not say if they were for sony. The site also said the discrete code was for power off.

thanks

You're getting ahead of yourself here.
First, you have to start with a Setup code for the particular device you want to control. If you look in your 8811 manual, under TVs and Sony, you'll see the setup code is 0000. Enter this per the instructions and check to see if it controls your TV. If it does, use the instructions on www.hifi-remote.com to enter advanced codes (that correspond to the 0000 setup code) to specific buttons. That should give you the commands you want.

I tried again and no luck. The site said a discrete code to turn off sony TV was 109 and device code was 0000. So I followed instructions and programed TV button on 8811 to 0000, then tried to set the discrete code for off by putting 109 on the L1 button. I Still must be doing something wrong?

Does programming the TV device with 0000 work with your TV at all? If not, that explains it. If other commands work, it may just be that there are no discrete on/off commands available for your TV.

You might want to check on the One for All forum to see if there's any other codes that might work. There are a number of people who frequent that forum that are very knowledgeable about the OFA remotes, including Rob Crowe, who runs hifi-remote.com

It's probably the 8811, all of the new codes added to the new crop ofa remotes
and some of the old codes, don't accept advanced codes. The older ofa remotes, or the current line of RS remotes, are your best bet.

Even some of the RS models won't work with all codes. I have a Sony (0000) and while most Advanced Codes work with it, four of the six VIDEO input codes will not work with the RS-2104. They program into the RS remote but will neither operate the function on the TV or work from my MX-500 after being learned on its buttons.
