I just got an MX-1000 for $175. Is that good? I was looking for a MX-500 but ended up buying this. Now, if I can just figure out how to program the macros I'll be all set.

$175 for a new MX-1000 would be an excellent price. Usually the best deals are $190 to $210 +shipping.
Have fun with it, it's a very versatile and adaptive remote. The confusing part of the macro setting is juggling between the device and common button setting during the proceedure.
