Just bought my first av receiver (used) and PSB surround speakers. Looking forward to replacing many remotes with mx500 but have seen here that users have had problems with Yamaha. Would like to hear about your experiences. If you had problems, did you find solutions?
thanks in advance.

Hi Joe,
I have a Yamaha RX-V695 and recently replaced its remote with the MX500. It works great.

I have a Yamaha RX-V870 which I am controlling completely with my MX-500. It did take a little thought to get it all set up. Here is what I did. From the Main page I set up "AUDIO" to control the input select and tuner. I created a new device on the Main page called "SURRD" (Surround) which controls the DSP selections on page 1 and surround setup functions on page 2. I set up the volume as a punch through on all of the components.
Looking at the Yamaha Web page, I see this receiver has more sound fields than mine, so setup may be more of a challenge, but I hope this helps you out. I have learned that anything you can do with your factory remote, you can duplicate on the MX-500 so you should be OK (as long as you don't run out of space). Perhaps the later model Yamaha receivers have issues, if so perhaps someone else will respond.

life is good when your average joe has an issue he can post it on the web to the masses and and within minutes good people come to your technical and emotional rescue through something called threads.
i'm obviously a little techno-phobic when it comes to av. yet i am a competent telephony disaster recovery engineer.
thanks all for your responses.

I have an RX-V795A and the MX-500 works great. I created an Audio Device with discrete power on and off LCD keys, and discrete input selection keys. The thumpad up and down control next/previous sound field, and the thumpad select toggles effects on and off.
All of this was made possible by using a Cinema 7 to teach discrete codes to the MX-500.
