or anyone that can help really..am getting my mx-500 from the fine peeps at bluedo.com and just want to be able to utilize it the best way possible. basically, i have a sony ht-1700d tuner/reciever, sony dvd player, sony tv, sony vcr, gi analog cable box. sony tv/vcr combo in another room. i kinda have all these tidbits of very useful info from this site and just want to be sure i am going about starting the right way.
first, i am going to aux 155 all device codes so i start with blank slate.
i have all my original remotes set aside and i guess basically gonna learn every button from the original to the mx-500 and forgo even trying pre-programmed codes. tuner functions, including sound field and basically, labeled button for labeled button. so then learn all.
when labled buttons are done i will figure which of the eight on top i want to be the function in each device. then edit the labels to correspond.
i want to set up macros to work multi-stuff, but still am unsure how to easily go about and if do need at all.
i would also like a little clearer explanation of what 'punch through' means becuase i think i want to do that as well...
so basically, asking what is the best way to start out and fully use my great new remote and leave nothing out..i dont have patience for manuals and i find inputs here to be the best and frankly only resource..so if you dont mind a few minutes and guide me..thanks so much in advance for any help..anyone.

Scott,

It would entice other people more to read and respond if you separated your paragraphs with a blank line and use capital letters where appropriate. It just makes text so much easier to read and understand. Just a friendly suggestion :-)

Cheers,

I'm assuming you mean like a System Off or System On macro, or maybe a "DVD" macro that sets up the whole system to watch a DVD? If so, they're convenient and frankly pretty cool to show off to your friends :)

Punch through means that even when you're in the DVD or VCR device, when you press VOLUME UP or DOWN, it controls the Audio Receiver. Well, that's one example at least. You can set it up to do anything really. Maybe you want your TV to control the volume for your VCR. All done with Punch through.

Sounds like you pretty much have it covered! You'll probably do what most of us did when we first received it - played around trying out all of the features before putting our custom setup in stone.
