On my MX-500, if you choose, say VCR1, and then hit MAIN, you can still access many VCR1 functions (such as channel up/down, play, stop, etc.) (Volume punch through for MAIN is still tied to the receiver, which you CAN do on the 700.) If you choose VCR2, and go back to MAIN, it then functions the same as above. If fact this was a ease of use selling point for the 500 and encouraged me to end my device selection macros on the MAIN page.

My problem is that from what I can see, the only functions for MAIN on the 700 must always be the same. IOW, they can't change based on the device just previously selected. Am I understanding this correctly?

You are right. It does not work like the MX-500 did. The MAIN page can in fact work like a device unto itself.

You can still punch through items like vol, ch, etc. to the MAIN page, but that would be for individual devices, not the device that you just came out of.

I like the way the MX-500 works, but I've gotten so used to the MX-700 now, that I don't even notice not having this feature.

There is a reason why they went this way, but I'll have to explain it another time.

Greg,

One thing that woul be really useful, and should be easy to implement, is to go to the previous device if you hit the MAIN button while in MAIN. In fact, that's the way the MAIN button behaves from the Favorites device. A simple thing that would be a great time / effort saver.

This might be useful to some people, but the thinking behind it is that the typical user that a custom installer will use this remote for wants the remote to go to MAIN when they push MAIN, not anywhere else.

KISS principle: Keep It Simple, Stupid.

I agree fully - but why would I push MAIN to go to the MAIN page if I'm already in the MAIN page? :-) Not to mention that if you press MAIN in the Favorites device you go back to the previous device, not MAIN, so the presedence is there ...

Cheers,
