Okay, I'm with you all now. This is a problem that needs to be fixed, and I will send in the bug report.

Guys, I'm with everyone here, and definitely would go with the T2 approach (I have one of those too :-). The problem however is not simple - it's a matter of system architecture. The T2 system has separate library formats for commands and button configurations. The MX-700 only has button configuration libraries (the devices). In other words, the MX-700 system currently has no way of archiving a command unless it's tied to a button.
Now if at least you could copy buttons or the command and macro portions from one button to another, then you could load a device into an unused device space, copy what you needed, then remove it, thus using the external device file as a surrogate library.

DJ - good idea. That along with a "Revert to Database" option and then an "Undo" menu option.. and I'll be 100% behind this thing..

I'm working hard on convincing them to be able to paste in Pronto format hex codes.
It will be a hard uphill battle, but I strongly think they need to be able to do that.
Or even an entire CCF converter.

Greg: Thanks for turning this situation in. It's really great to have fellow users like yourself and the others to help us all out!
I'm happier and happier with the 700 as time goes on. Looking back over the last few days, the part that confused me was that the unit allowed very flexible placement of the built-in LCD commands, but very little flexibility for the built-in hard button codes. Maybe an additional "holding area" for dragging/dropping/copying of hard button commands???

LOL
The "holding area" was thought of and you might still see if down the road, if people are unhappy with the way things work now.
