I've got a dummy device called Macro, and have written small macros to change the input on the reciever and take the MX-700 to page 1 of that device. It works on the lcd buttons on the device pages, but not from the main page. What am I doing wrong?

I'm not sure what you're trying to do. Where are you trying to go from the MAIN page? To the Dummy device Page 1 or somewhere else?

Another question: how do I get a macro to punch through on all devices? I want page one of each device to fire the same macros as the main page above, and I want the on and off buttons to fire the same macros on every device as well.

For your second question, you can use shortcuts from any button(s) you want that go to the button with the macro on it.

Mike,
On my macro device, I wrote a macro called Tivo1. This changes the input on the reciever to video 1, and brings up the Now Playing screen on TiVo1, and places the MX-700 on the first page of the TiVo1 device.
I assigned a shortcut from an lcd button on any device to the macro, and it works fine. When I assign the same macro to an lcd button on the main page, it doesn't work.
Thanks!
Phil

Here's a little more of my dilemma. To make the remote easy for my wife to operate, I have made Main Page 1, and Page 1 of every device to be identical. Theyt are all labeled with the names of my ten devices, and I want the same macro to fire with the same lcd button on each page. That's ten devices, with ten shortcuts on each page. The way its going now, that's 100 shortcuts I have to manually put in. Is there a way to have a macro punch through to all devices on an lcd key and a power on and off button?

It wouldn't be such a problem if you could copy and paste groups of buttons from one device to another, like you can with most software (I'm going to relentlessly bug Greg about this, even if it's not his fault - ah hell, he's probably somehow to blame anyway :-).

You should be able to assign a shortcut to an LCD button on the MAIN page to a macro on another page. It seems to work fine in MX Editor.
I agree about the copy and paste groups of buttons, but if you really have a lot, you can import the device you want to copy from to a new device and edit the buttons you don't want.

Mike,
I agree, it does work in MX-editor, but it doesn't work when you try to use the remote. No codes go out. I thought this was one of the main features of the MX-700. I can't believe this kind of bug slipped through.

Here's another weird one. Instead of a shortcut on the main page, I tried writing a new macro with just one step: firing the desired macro. When I try to choose the desired macro as a step, it won't let me. Since the button on the main page is the same as the button on the macro page, it isn't available.

You're right, Phil.
I think the MAIN page LCD buttons will only let you do device-related macros, although that's not how it's supposed to be.

I havent tried yet, but I guess I will have to write each macro over for each button on the main page. I hope that works! If not, I have a couple of choice words in mind!

Don't forget you can copy macros using the "Import Macro" command.

DJ I've got big shoulders. I can handle it! Have no fear. I forward your requests to URC for their consideration, even if they do read them on the forum here. ... Broad-shouldered Greg :-)

URC is working on the problem of using shortcuts on the hard remote buttons to alias them to macros on the LCD buttons.
