OK, I sort of lied, they're actually discrete code emulation macros. That's right. Believe it or not, I'm able to 100% reliably (so far, a score times or so) turn the SAT-T60 on or off regardless of current state, to wit:

P-On: send two power commands in a row one after the other

P-Off: Same as above, plus a .2 sec wait - may need to be a tad longer for your unit, or not - then another power command (obvious, if P-On works)

Obviously this works on internal power-up/down timing, so I'm curious how individual unit variances will affect this. Let me know if they work on your specific unit.

DJ,
always trying to do the impossible, with .2% success

I should have warned that these macros will not work properly if tried through the designer software test feature. They must be run from the remote in order to work properly.

Can't a more reliable system off be to hit the menu button and scroll down to "standby"?
P.S.: I'm asking everybody... Do you know how to reset the TiVo remote that came with the SAT-T60?

Galen,

That's a great idea for the OFF - I should've thought of that, and will be less intrusive. Thanks!

That leaves the two Power commands in a row for the ON as the only Rube Goldberg discrete :-).

Well, it turns out my original approach works better. Using the Menu / Standby requires at least eight commands to get to the bottom of the menu list. so I reverted to my original which is only 4 commands. But it was worth a try :-).

I would think the time it takes to go into standby would be a problem (if using a power down/power up for on command).

But more importantly, many of us have reached a concensus that the T-60 should always be left on. (Check out the TivoForum at www.tivocommunity.com). Standby mode seems to add very little as benefit (drives continue to operate, tuner still functioning, etc.) but does seem to add occasional temporary software glitches (loss of sound, black screen, etc.) I fretted quite a while over the lack of discretes, but have left the unit on now for over a year and never looked back.

Interesting - I've never had a problem with the standby mode in over two years - I guess whatever works. I do leave some stuff on penmanently - the preamp and power amps in my case :-).

Cheers,
