Hello. I am new to the world of Home Theater, I have a great new system - and five remotes - yikes!
My custom installer tried to sell me a Pronto remote -- but my price range for a remote tops out in the $150-200 range.

Here are my parameters:
1) $200 or less. (spouse-imposed restriction)
2) Something that handles macros.
3) Something that can talk to these components:

Panasonic CT36HX31 HDTV Capable TV
Mitsubishi SRHD500 HDTV Receiver
Sony SATT60 Digital Satellite Receiver/ w TIVO
Mitsubishi HSU448 VCR
Yamaha DVD DV-C6480
Yamaha Receiver HTR-5550

The MX-500 looks interesting, and appears to be relatively easy to program?

Any advice would be VERY APPRECIATED before I buy!

5? That's nothing :) I have a box full for my current den setup. I think there's something like 10 remotes in it!

My custom installer tried to sell me a Pronto
remote -- but my price range for a remote tops
out in the $150-200 range.

Custom installers are not discount retailers, but they can program the remote for you in most cases. Personally, I think it's fun to learn a new remote and get it working exactly as I want it for my system.

Here are my parameters:

MX-500 is under $130, definately fits the bill there.

2) Something that handles macros.

The MX-500 is good at this (the MX-700 is better but way above your price range). Macros can be placed on the POWER ON, POWER OFF buttons, the M1, M2 and M3 buttons at the bottom of the remote, and all 10 of the LCD buttons (while on the MAIN page).

3) Something that can talk to these components:

Panasonic CT36HX31 HDTV Capable TV
Mitsubishi SRHD500 HDTV Receiver
Sony SATT60 Digital Satellite Receiver/ w TIVO
Mitsubishi HSU448 VCR
Yamaha DVD DV-C6480
Yamaha Receiver HTR-5550

Any good home theater remote in this segment would work here. Lots of us use with Tivo and everything else, you shouldn't have any problems!

If you'd like to use macros for things like SYSTEM ON, SYSTEM OFF, PLAY DVD, WATCH TV, etc., you may want to consider getting a cheap 2nd remote that has Advanced Codes, which you can easily teach to the MX-500. A common remote for this task is the Cinema 7+ (URC7800) which does this, as well as has JP1 capability to grab any code from the net, including codes designed for Prontos! There's a huge cache of codes on this site alone.

relatively easy to program?

VERY easy.

Your spouse will also love the ease-of-use of the MX-500!
