Hi I just got my MX-500 and it seems very easy to setup. I have a few questions:
1) Does it support Discrete Codes?
2)I bought mine from www.bluedo.com and they also offer a package with a 2nd remote - VRC7800 and a cable - JP1. Do I need these? What is the cable used for?
3) Is there a way to set the input on a reciever - switch it from TV to DVD etc? I have a Kenwood VR509 receiver.

thanks in advance

1) Yes. But you'll likely need a way to get the codes into the MX-500, like another remote! Which leads to:

2) So that you can learn all the discrete codes you want from anywhere out there on the net! The URC7800 has lots of Advanced Codes built in which may be all you need. For anything that isn't in the AC's, you can use the JP1 cable to connect the URC7800 to your computer and download any code from a PRONTO setup too!

3) Probably yes - that's a discrete code!

3) Do you have the original remote? Does it have this function? Learn the appropriate buttons to the MX-500.

How do I know if the 7800 has the advanced codes I need? Is there a way to see a list of them? Also how does one use the JP1 cable? I don't see how a cable is going to help? How is it used?

thanks

Thanks for the advice but I read the info in both those sites and it is Greek to me. I am totally new to all this. If I go to [Link: hifi-remote.com] and select Adv Codes List - there are a bunch of 4 digit codes for various types of devices - there are 25 codes for TV. If you click on one of these codes it brings up a large list of function specific 3 digit codes.
1) How do I know which codes go with which device and then how do I use these 4 digit/3digit combination of codes? I assume I need to get the correct code into the 7800 but how?

As for the JP1 site - wow that was confusing. Any hints?

Sorry for all the stupid questions but I really do appreciate all the help I have been getting from the people on this site.

1) go [Link: hifi-remote.com] to find the setup code i.e. Sony TV= 0000, 0080 and you see wich of the four matches your code.
2) Then you go to the advanced code section and you look for your four digit code

The JP1 is a cable that gives you the power to reprogram your 7800

Thanks Anthony,
so if I understand correctly I have a Proscan TV. The only 4 digit code for it is 0047. I then looked up the advanced codes for 0047 and I can enter any of these 3 digit codes into the 7800. Right??
There does not appear to be any descrete codes that I need listed for this device such as Power On. Am I beat here or is there some where else to try and geta descrete code I need? Does the JP1 come into play here?

thanks
