Jim,

We offer pre-orders on our website. I'm sure this forum will be the first to know anything!

It appears to me that only URC's website is accepting actual orders for immediate shipping. That is if you want to pay $500 (and I do not).

The MX-500 release taught me it may not hurt to wait a while for firmware updates to iron out. And besides...I think that price really needs to come down a bit. I waited this long, I can wait another quarter (or two). It's not like I'm handicapped with my MX-500 :-)

I understand where you're coming from Arjen, but can't future firmware changes be handled through downloads and updates unlike the MX-500? I too can wait, but I really want one of these! (I need the price to drop below $400 though).

Good point, you are probably right. I imagine it would be much cheaper for HTM as well to simply offer firmware updates through downloads.

Anyway, there's still the possibility for hardware changes. Apparently that thumbpad is still not perfect. But then again, the changes to the MX-500 were not perceived as an improvement by everyone, so no guarantuees there.

So to me, I guess it just comes down to price. I want one...I'll HAVE one dangit. But given that I like my MX-500 so well, this time I can wait a while longer for the price to drop. :-)

Well, desperado that I am I ordered mine from the URC website last night. I'm leaving for a week on Friday evening, so let's see if it gets here before then.

I justify my extra expenditure by realizing I'm subsidizing remote control R&D, and by the fact that I skipped buying the MX-500, so the bottom line is smaller.

And before Arjen butts in saying he has a backup with the 500, let me say that my Pronto and T2 are enough backup, already :-)

And the Live Update apparently will update the firmware if there are any updates posted. BTW, whoever was saying the updates are slow, mine went as fast as could be expected given my DSL speed and the size of the download (around 6 MB).

Cheers / DJ

DJ...what is going on...don't tell me you are dropping the T2 just because some MX-700 is coming around?

But seriously...you ARE a remotaholic. Good for you :)

Thank goodness! I thought DJ was going to have a heart attack before the MX-700 shipped! ;-)

Obviously we look forward to a mini-review soon after you get back and a complete review in the User Review forum once you have had time with the remote and the software, DJ!

UPS says it gets here tomorrow. I'm leaving Friday late afternoon and have tons of stuff to settle before, but, well, maybe I'll post a micro-review tomorrow night B-)

URC now has the MX Editor programming manual available on their website.

Hey, SRC and Bluedo: When are you going to get these in?

BTW, here's my favorite quote from the manual and an excellent example of how thorough this manual is:

Before attempting to learn MXEditor you should have a working knowledge of Windows. We assume that you understand how Windows programs open, close, minimize,
maximize and save files. If you do not know how to use a mouse or navigate through Windows Explorer and My Computer, please stop now, go to a bookstore and purchase a basic Windows "How To" manual. You will not understand any of the following instructions until you have these fun-damentals mastered. In addition,we assume that you understand home theater operation and configuration in great detail. Many of the tricks of programming automated home theaters have nothing to do with programming remote controls and everything to do with how the system is hooked up!
