Greg, I agree with Arjen. You are blatantly rubbing this in our face..you lucky dog, you! Yep. I am blatantly telling you, but only because I'm an MX-500 owner who loves that remote, and am excited by the possibilites of this new one. I'm not rubbing it in your faces. I'm just trying to get you excited! :-) ..... and yes, I'm a lucky dog! he heYou say: "You are in for a surprise on the LCD screen" Yes, I guess I did! ;-) Question 1: Is it a good surprise or a disappointing one? That will all depend on your likes and dislikes. I think it makes the remote a bit more classy. Nope. It's not a whole new color.Question 2: Since you obviously have the version that is going to hit the streets...April 1st I do believe....what is the actual color of the case? I've already posted in another thread that the actual colour of the case is "taupe". If my memory serves me correctly, it is a bit lighter than the "sandstone" that was shown at CEDIA. I like it better than the sandstone. LOL. It was YOU who said April 1, you FOOL! ROFL! ;-)I'm squeezing out all I can, kids! I'm just throwing things out as I see them, and what things excite me about the software, etc. Did I mention drag-and-drop macro step ordering? Did I mention learning directly into the software, and testing back out through the remote (including macros), without having to download or upload until you've got the configuration right? Did I mention moving your devices on the MAIN screen without having to reprogram them? Hmmmmmmm... maybe I didn't. ;-) Oops. Maybe I'm telling more than I should! robm: Now that is funny!!! (and true!) lol..but I still have hope for HTM coming through with all we wish for re: MX1000. It might be funny for a while, but it's getting old. So do I, but it's not looking good.... Greg :-)

Good stuff. Thanks for getting that user definable macro delay in there:) You're welcome! :-) While there may still be possibilities for feature requests.....any chance they can add the capability to make a button (or last step in macro) sustain the IR signal? I don't know if it is possible in the future (probably is), but it won't be in this release. Keep rubbing BTW :-) Oh, I will. I will! ;-)

It might be funny for a while, but it's getting old. Greg, You bet your sweet remote it's getting old! But not nearly as old as the hope for any realizations of the MX-1000's potential. I fell for the great promises of the MX-1000, and I will never again give URC the benefit of believing in the mere potential of any of their current or future products. My recommendation for anyone who is excited about the MX-700 is to hold off buying one until you see if URC actually supports and updates the software, or if they just drop it like a hot potato when they move on to other projects. Yes, Greg, this is getting old, and perhaps I am a bit bitter, but your statement truly did make me laugh... I was able to control my bladder, though :-) -- robm

I fell for the great promises of the MX-1000, and I will never again give URC the benefit of believing in the mere potential of any of their current or future products. I hear ya! However, I'm cautiously optimistic about the MX-700 at the same time as I've lost my optimism for an update to MX Designer. My recommendation for anyone who is excited about the MX-700 is to hold off buying one until you see if URC actually supports and updates the software, or if they just drop it like a hot potato when they move on to other projects. I year ya again. I was able to control my bladder, though :-) Glad to hear that! ;-)

It seems as though there will be many remote owners (at least on this forum) that will someday have both an MX-700 and a MX-500 in their collection. It would be nice if there was some way to clone devices between the two, even if it can only be done for learned codes, labels, and macros on the device buttons. This would make the MX-500 even more powerful than it is today. (PC programmable and discrete database by the "transitive property") Any possibility there? or is the MX-500 memory way too limited for that? I would imagine that the minor button layout might present another challenge as well. Anyone care to comment (Greg)?

I would venture a guess that cloning would be impossible.
1) Different button layout, hence no way to map the buttons of the MX-500 to the MX-700.
2) Yes, less memory in the MX-500. Any macros longer than what the MX-500 can hold wouldn't work.
Learned codes: One by one isn't all that hard.
Labels on MX-700: Very easy to do in the software.
One nice thing about owning both though is that at least you can learn any discrete codes from your MX-700 to your MX-500. And also save any discrete/hard-to-find codes you have in your MX-500 to a hidden page on the MX-700, and therefore be able to back up those codes to your PC.
Longer story short..... impossible, due to different button configuration.
... Greg :-)

Greg,
Here is an off the wall question: How hard is it to take off the front cover of the 700. I have friends who make the paints for cell phones and Wega tv's. If I don't like the taupe, I could have them paint it a really cool color (like the new color shifting paints.) Can the plastic cover be removed from the buttons and lcd screen?
Thanks
Phil

Yes, the remote can be taken apart, if you want to void the warranty. You'll have to email Mike Gifford at [email protected] for instructions on how to do it. ... Greg :-)

Been out of the 'Net for about three weeks... Greg, have you heard anything new about when the MX-700 will start shipping?

They're putting the final touches on the software, and then they'll ship. I'd venture a guess at two weeks on the outside. But it's only a guess.

Say...we almost let this one slip by...what's the deal with that LCD surprise Greg? I hate surprises! Am I close with any of these?
1. Blue backlight color 2. Higher resolution 3. More characters per label 4. Non-reflective glass
