Please help!

I want to buy the MX-1000 but I found out that it does not control x-10 stuff since x-10 is RF. However, I read an earlier message stating that I can purchase a "IR543" to convert IR to RF which will control my x-10 components.

Has anyone tried this with the mx-1000? (if so, please decribe), if not has anyone tried it with a SL9000/8000. If so, how did you input the codes into the remote??

All you need to do is buy an Infrared X10 Command Console. This unit will accept IR signals and transmit equivalent X10 commands. You can get it from SmartHome for $29.99 (part #4040). I believe that the MX-1000 has a preprogrammed code for X10 signals.

X-10 is not RF, X-10 is sent through your house wiring. How to CONTROL X-10, however, can be accomplished through three means: RF to an X-10 transmitter, IR to an X-10 transmitter, or your finger (on a button) to an X-10 transmitter. For use with the MX-1000, Pronto, Take Control, etc. you'll need to buy an IR to X-10 transciever, the IR-543.

Unless the MXOP software has a way to add IR codes via direct entry of HEX codes (copied from the Pronto files, using the freeware ProntoEdit from this site), you will need a remote that has the X-10 IR commands built-in, to teach the MX-1000. Smarthome has a remote that will send X-10 both in IR and RF, but I am not sure it can send unit codes 11-16. [Link: smarthome.com]

You can also try the more expensive OFA remotes.

I'm using an IR-543 right now. It's one of the pre-programmed options in the AUX category, and it works fine manually - that is, I can issue a "2" followed by a "channel down." to turn off a command.

The one issue I have is that macro commands are started and stopped by "channel Up" commands, so I need to figure out how to include channel up in a macro.

Other than that, it works fine out of the box.

I thought channel down was to cancel a macro being programmed.

In any case, I have found that the second screen in the AUX function has a few of the X-10 commands preprogrammed. For example, K2 corresponds to 'On', K8 is 'Off', K4 is 'Dim', K6 is 'Bright'. (I'm doing this from memory so I might be off on the exact button names.) Give it a try.
