I've been a user of multiple MX-700/MX-800s since about 2003 and I love the remotes. However, I finally got around to updating my living room equipment and I've discovered that the MX-800 seems to have have fallen behind the times with regards to learning newer IR protocols.

My nemesis is the Pace DC50X given to me by Comcast for HD channel reception. The MX-800 refuses to learn the 3, 5 and Channel+ commands of the DC50X and some less important buttons. Researching the issue here and other forums it seems this is a common problem with older URC remotes and newer IR equipment. I found the DC50X speaks an IR protocol called XMP which gives the MX-800 grief.

Having researched everything, I'm still confused. Is there a way for the MX-800 to work with the pace DC50X? If so, what specific steps do I need to take to make it work?

I've also learned that since I've bought my equipment, the URC business model has since become very unfriendly towards DIYs such as myself. The latest version of the MX Editor I have dates to about 2007. Is there anyway for DIY's such as myself to get updated editor and firmware for our devices?

Thanks.

Update: Yes, the MX800 can indeed be made to work well with the DC50X Comcast HD DTA. See my later posting below for the hex codes that can be entered into the MX800 via the hex input on MX Editor.

If your MX-800 can accept Pronto Hex, use the RNG 100/110/150/200  IR codes.  Comcast uses the same ones in all of the newer boxes.

Yes, the mx-800 can accept pronto hex via the universal browser in the mx-editor software.

Thanks for the pointer, I'm working on it now. I can program the number buttons from that page via MX Editor and it does produce the right number, the problem I'm working on right now is they repeat very quickly -- for instance a single press of '2' will yield '222222'. The RNG200 codes are part of the answer, but not the whole answer. I'll report back if I get it working.

By modifying the hex code preamble I was able to get the RNG200 codes working properly with the Pace DC50X (aka Comcast HD DTA) with my MX800 using the older MX Editor software. Below are the modified codes that work for me. These should also work on the MX700 and MX850 as well.

Thank you for the tips and keeping my MX800 functioning for me.
