Hello,

i have urc 450 remote and mrf 260 base station. I have it all in a media closet not in line of sight. Is there any way I can control it without the directv remote??

Thank you!

with receiver in IR mode, using code 173 in the mx-450. To control it in the closet, use the mrf260 to accept RF signals from the mx-450, turn it into IR, so the Genie can receive them. Rf universal remotes like mx-450, are IR controlling only remote, but use its own RF frequency to do it from afar.

Oh man, I am sorry. I am confused about on your response.

you said "use the mrf260 to accept RF signals from the mx-450, turn it into IR"

I did not understand that part. My MRF260 is in the closet already. That might be what I failed to mention before...so my (if I understand correctly) 260 is already accepting RF from 450 and turning it into IR.

I tried to take the emitter, taped it on the IR spot on front of genie and tried to have the DirectTV remote manually teach the MX450 basic commands but the 450 did not read a signal from the remote. I thought it was going to work because when I told it to learn the ON button from the remote, it did accept it , but nothing after that.

Maybe that helps clarify...thank you very much for helping me.

If the directv remote can control the Genie while its in closed closet, then your receiver is in RF mode, and the mx-450/mrf260 will never control it, not when its in RF mode, it has to be in IR mode.

And if it were in IR mode, you wouldn't need to teach, just use the preset code 173 in the mx-450.

Awesome.

I thought that might be possible and I think googled how to change revcr from RF to IR and did not notice anything. I should be able to figure that out now.

It's a HR34-700.

With hr34, its IR or RF, never both. But the new HR44 accepts both IR & RF at the same time. But the HR44 is now using a different RF frequency then previous Rf directv receivers, so the old white Rf remotes won't control it unless its IR mode.
