There is absolutely NO way I could have figured this out on my own. 'Darnitol', you've done it once again! Thanks SO much.

A small side note. It seems that you have to do this configuration for each USB port that you want to use once. It is not universal across all USB ports, only the one that is being used when you select the Microsoft USB driver. I mention in case you happen to plug your cable into a different USB port after you get it working. Man Windows is awesome!

I adapted these steps from another source, but here's the basic run-down for using most legacy URC remotes on Windows 7.

• Install Windows Mobile Device Center
• Connect the remote via USB

Note: Do not let the remote go to sleep during the remaining steps.

• Double-click the exclamation mark in Device Manager
• Click "Update Driver"
• Click "Browse My Computer"
• Click "Let Me Pick"
• Choose "Mobile Device"
• Choose "Microsoft" as the manufacturer
• Choose "Microsoft USB Sync"

Windows Mobile Device Center should now open, and the remote should chime when it connects.

I know this is old, but I just wanted to thank you for this post. I thought I needed to order an "original" cable for the older 3000's, but it turns out it was just a driver error.

I followed your instructions and I can now use my remote!

Thank you!

So has anyone tried Windows 8, the MX-3000 and the MX-3000 software? Windows Mobile Device Center does not run under Win 8. If anyone has a workaround, it would be great to know. If I find anything I'll report it here.
When in doubt, mumble.

Did anyone ever get the MX-3000 software communicating with the remote when running Windows 8 or 10? If it is not possible, I am unfortunately going to have to keep a Windows 7 PC.

Perfect, that fixed my issue with Win7-64 and my MX-980. So much for WMDC autodetecting the URC remotes.

Except my remote didn't beep. Might be because I have sound turned off. :-)

I think this might be the longest time I've ever gone from making a post to being quoted from it.

I wanted to resurrect this thread because I just found something NEW that works GREAT! I have the MX-3000 software running on 3 different PCs, two running Win 10 and one Win 11. Eventually none of them could communicate with any my 11 MX-3000s (one for each room) via Windows Mobile Device Center, no matter how many times I did the routine above. Then I found a new fix on this site:

[Link: junipersys.com]

and it worked on both Win 10 and Win 11! Download and install the two fixes in the middle of the page and reboot and I am back in business, what a relief!

I should add that I had to redo the installation of the Microsoft USB Sync driver AFTER I applied the Juniper patches on at least one of the PCs, but it worked immediately after that, no second reboot needed.
