Is there anybody who has been able to get the driver working with the MX-3000 and Windows 7 yet?

I cant communicate with the device.

Thanks in advance.

Have you tried all the various drivers in the software folder? It took months AFTER Vista came out to get it to work with the MX-3000, so unless you can get one of the Vista drivers to work you've probably got a long wait for an OS that hasn't even been released yet.

Have you downloaded and installed Windows Mobile Device Center? I have an MC-980 working flawlessly with WMDC on Win7. The original issue with the 980 and 3000 was the lack of ActiveSync on Vista that was eventually resolved by using WMDC. The same solution works for Win7.

Anyone find a solution to this yet? I am ready to give windows 7 a try but am struggling with the idea of not being able to connect my MX3000. I tweak my remote about once a week. Any help would be great. Thanks to all who help...

I have been able to get the MX-3000 editor to run and communicate under Windows 7. While I don't, by any stretch, claim to be an expert, this is what works for me.

1. You'll need "Windows Mobile Device Center" installed. There's a good step-by-step at: [Link: adirob.blogspot.com]. Even though the blog is for Vista, the steps are pretty much the same for Windows 7.

2. Once installed (and the proper driver assigned in device manager) you'll need to make sure that Windows Mobile Device Center is running BEFORE you connect your MX-3000. It appears that if you try and connect your MX-3000 without the Mobile Device Center running, Windows 7 will try and revert to the standard URC USB driver which won't work. If it does you'll need to reassign the Microsoft USB Sync driver as outlined in the blog listed above.

3. Make sure your MX-3000 is awake before connecting the programming cable.

I have also noticed that if the MX-3000 editor is running before I plug in the unit it won't recognize the remote until I close and restart the editor.

Now, if only someone could point me towards a "Live Update" version of the software or a new database then I could complete my programming without having to "learn" every command from the old remotes.

Good Luck!

I feel your pain - I have an Onkyo 886 pre/pro arriving Monday and I will try the codes in the years old IRDB that URC won't let me update.  I had to learn all the codes for my new Oppo BD player recently.  I would like to add some of the new lighting controls as well, but apparently I'm not allowed to have the necessary file for that either.

I'm running Windows 7 RTM as my sole OS now on my production laptop, and have gotten everything to work perfect. For the MX-3000 and MX-980, you just have to download windows mobile device center 6.1 and install it. Then plug in the remote, and manually find the driver in the installation folder of the URC remote you plugged in. I noticed for some reason the graphics run a little slower, but everything else runs a lot faster so it's a fair trade off. If you still run into problems, just run the program in XPM (as long as your CPU supports it). To update you only need run as administrator.

I'm trying to get my MX-980 working with windows 7 but when I go through the process of installing the driver for my MX-980 it gives me the message "this operation requires an interactive window station". Did anyone else run into this and how did you get around it. I googled it and about all I could find was an updated driver needed to be used. I've used Live Update so I should have all the latest.

Thanks.

Ok, i got it working. I had to go change the driver to Microsoft USB Sync, as explained in the instructions here adirob.blogspot.com

The blog quoted above does not give any directions unless one subscribes to it. In essence make sure you download the correct version of Windows mobile device center, eiither 32 or 64 bits. Then update the driver using device manager. Make sure you always select searching in your computer and you uncheck compatible devices when you get to that screen. If everything else fails call URC they walked me through the process.

I adapted these steps from another source, but here's the basic run-down for using most legacy URC remotes on Windows 7.

• Install Windows Mobile Device Center
• Connect the remote via USB

Note: Do not let the remote go to sleep during the remaining steps.

• Double-click the exclamation mark in Device Manager
• Click "Update Driver"
• Click "Browse My Computer"
• Click "Let Me Pick"
• Choose "Mobile Device"
• Choose "Microsoft" as the manufacturer
• Choose "Microsoft USB Sync"

Windows Mobile Device Center should now open, and the remote should chime when it connects.

I've been fighting this war myself and your instructions did the trick. Thanks!
