I got my MX500 on Friday from rrdeals. It took a week from ordering. No problems with the remote. I have only one complaint about RRdeals, I did not receive an invoice..how does one receive warranty service without proof of purchase?
Anyway onto my problem. When I use a macro for my Sony WEGA for switching to 16:9 mode, at times it works perfectly at times some steps appear to skip or fail resulting in the wrong menu option on the TV being selected. Anyone else have this problem ?
I also thought I could put my Cinema 7 (with JP1) to rest but now I realise I would still need it to learn advanced codes not available on the original remote.
Without a PC interface the MX500 is still not as flexible as a Cinema7. Shouldn't the MX500 at $135 outperform the Cinema7 at $15 (ebay) ?

It could be the delay between commands is not enough, or the signals learned aren't clean (if you're using preprogrammed, you might want to try learned).

I tried delays but that didn't seem to help. Yes I'm using preprogrammed, I'll try your suggestion of learning them.
Thanks Daniel!

Well I've tried everything I could think of and the macro just doesn't work reliably. It works from my Cinema 7 though.
Here's my macro 1. TV 2. Menu 3. Arrow left 4. Arrow left 5. Arrow down 6. Arrow down 7. Arrow down 8. Arrow down 9. Arrow down 10 Enter 11 Arrow down 12 Menu
This should enable the 16:9 feature on my Sony Wega KV32FS16.
I've tried learning the buttons from several different remotes (Cinema 7, original Sony remote). I've tried using the preprogrammed functions. I've also tried introducing delays of upto 1 sec between each step.
The macro always seems to skip a few steps. Very rarely it functions ok.
So what do I do next ? Do I have a defective remote ?

I mentioned on another thread that I had probelms with macros that used the directional keys. As a work around I learned the required directional keys to a spare lcd button and then had the macro point to these keys instead. You might want to give it a try to see if your remote behaves the same way.

Pete , thanks for ur suggestion. I tried it and it doesn't work for me. I guess I probably have a defective remote.

I've not had any luck with my problem and tech support has not been of any use (Mike Gifford) and without macros I would rather use my Cinema 7. Can I return my remote..anyone know ? Randy???

well I finally managed to get it working though it still fails at times. It now works 8 or 9 times out of 10 attempts (85%) so I guess I'll just have to grin and bear it.
Here's what I did. I used aux155 on my TV device and learned all the keys.
But I must say I'm kind of disappointed with this remote. It would have been a great remote had it had advance function capability, key mover capability and or a PC interface which would allow these features to be used.
In its present form you need a second remote with the above capabilities (Cinema 7, RS 15-1994 or a Pronto)to learn from.

I just got the MX-500 after reviews and recommendations of folks here. I also have a Sony WEGA and had a similar problem. After some study, I think it has to do with the joystick signals.
My macro goal was to toggle mode from Speaker On (kids mode) to Speaker Off (adult mode, so I can hear through my receiver) through the menu options. It seems to fail because the signal for Down and Up is a bit too long, so when you record Up x 1 it sometimes executes Up x 3.
I found a workaround, but I don't feel it's satisfactory. I experimented with inserting pause steps. It seems that when I insert a pause in the macro just before I press the Select button it works better. Unfortunately, the macro takes longer to execute.
Anyone else have this problem? Does this reflect a defective remote or is it just the way it works? Will relearing the Up and Down (and maybe Enter) help at all?
Thanks in advance.
- Danny

The speaker on/off function has a discrete code. I have a cinema 7 on which I programmed code 098 which switches the speaker on and off without going through the menu. I then learned this code from my Cinema 7 to my MX500.

In the MX-500 file section I have an .mx5 file which has the on/off toggle for the Sony KD-34XBR2 internal speakers. Of course to utilize it you would have to own (or have access to) the IRClone editor/hardware package.

MY 27 Inch and 36 Inch Sony's both use advanced TV code 0000 also uses 098 for internal speaker on/off. Sure beats trying to get a macro to do this every time. As stated above, you will need a Cinema 7 or Radio Shack remote to get the code setup so you then can learn it to the MX500 OR use IRClone and use Garretts .MX5 file to copy it to your MX500. I also have it on the TV screen of my .MX5 file on the MX500 file section of this forum.
