Above device an 8 component IR controller with code learning, macro programming and mono LCD, which I bought recently from a non-specialist national retailer. Can't find any technical data on the net or on the URC site. Maybe it's too new or was a limited production for the retailer. The problem is: it learns IR codes from my other IR devices but not Pronto via my pda. The pda will control the component in question, an old Kenwood KRV 8050 receiver, for which codes were thankfully gained from your site. Any suggestions

Does it clearly say "Universal Remote Control Inc" anywhere on the remote? Are you sure it was made by this company?
If not, post in the "Other Remotes" forum and you might get the answers you required.
