Looking tips tricks for SL8000. Good Remote in my opinion.

I almost bought the SL-9000, then I discovered the now famous RS 15-1994 (equivalent of Cinema 6/7) on this board. I've owned the RS 15-1994 for about one month and I absolutely love it.
The only thing that's lacking is the little LCD screen which is available on the SL8000/9000. But for $30 bucks, I can't really complain.
Anybody care to compare the RS 15-1994 with the SL-9000 ??

The biggest pluses of the SL-9000 over the 15-1994 are more buttons and full learning capability (I don't recall anyone running out of memory on the SL-9000). Plusses with the 15-1994 are more versatile macros, price, and possibly a better built-in code library.

I agree that the SL-9000 has more buttones, but not a whole lot more. The SL-9000 has four dedicated M keys,
but the 15-1994 has four dedicated L keys. What's more important, though, is that the 15-1994 DOES have FULL learning capabilities, except for a very few keys.

I have yet to run out of memory with my 15-1994, but I do hear people talk about running out memory in the forum where peole talk about 15-1994.

I bet Radio Shack could double the amount of memory on 15-1994 and sells it for $50 bucks. That'll be the ultimate remote everyone wants !

It does seems odd that neither One For All, nor RS promotes the full capability of their remote(full learning, flexible, advance code, etc.) !!

The 15-1994 is "full", except that you're limited to about 26 keys. The SL-9000 has "full" learning, but is nearly unlimited in terms of space.

Popped over from A/V Science. Looking for a remote that controls the gear(Sony) LCD projector (Sharp) AND THE HOUSE LIGHTS. This can't be asking too much.

I have several banks of lighting in the room. These condense down to one cir. dimmer. How do I get that "knob" into a touch screen remote?

Well, first pretty much anything will control your gear -- though I'd make sure whatever you buy is full-learning just in case.

As for the lighting. Is it controllable via any "remote" system currently? Or is it just... lighting? Also, how much do you want to spend on the remote? That's a good half of the purchase decision. :-)

JDB, you will get plenty of wisecracks around here even without inviting any, so be careful what you ask for! We have a few seasoned weisenheimers prowling these forums (WHUSSUP, Mike and Jay?) and, for what it's worth, I may be among them. You will also appreciate the considerable knowledge and willingness to help those with questions or problems.

After you've had a chance to look around this site, you should have a good idea of which remotes are highly regarded, as well as codes for specific makes and models of gear. (Thanks, Rob!) The Sony RM-AV2100 has a loyal following, though you will find nearly as many opinions on the 'ideal' remote as people posting them.

That "knob" will only get onto a remote if it has remote-reception capability itself... does it, JDB? ... Mike
