Came to use my iPronto yesterday evening to find it had a flat battery. I had used it earlier in the afternoon for a bit of browsing and it had seemed fine.

It still works when connected to the mains but dies when disconnected. It's as if the battery is completely dead and unable to accept any charge whatsoever.

Is this how these batteries die? There have been no other symptoms i.e. longer charging times, shorter usage times etc. Could there be any other cause?

A quick google has only turned up one battery supplier in the UK: www.247av.com, who want £170 for an iPronto battery. The obvious source, Let's Automate, no longer have it listed on their site. Are there any other significantly cheaper suppliers in the UK?

John

Did you search through this forum? Look at this thread for some information

"Source for iPronto battery?"

There is a number in there you can try. Search on battery...

As I stated in the original post, I'm looking for a supplier in the UK. Using google, I found two US suppliers but neither will ship outside the US.

My UK search turned up 'Let's Automate' and 'RGB Comms': neither show an iPronto battery on their sites and the last post about a battery in the UK was two years ago.

Sorry, didn't realize you where UK only. The only other thing I can think of is to just match the output of the battery. I think someone tried looking at that before but I do not know if they found any results. Also, look at ebay, you may be able to get a used IPronto for less than the new battery price. Sometimes broken ones show pretty cheaply.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I have a search saved on eBay. I'll just have to wait and see though I suspect that even eBay will prove too dear. I'm loathe to spend too much on a battery until I know that it is the battery. Admittedly this is the only lipo battery I have but it just seemed to die without warning. I could do with somebody confirming that this is what natural causes looks like for this type of battery.

To be honest, I'd rather put the cost of a battery into a new remote. I just wish that the range available had widened since I bought the iPronto. There appear to be a wide selection of Logitech remotes out there but they are not as programmable as the Pronto range.

Ebay is pretty cheap, you just have to be patient and hope they ship to the UK. With the current Pound to Dollar ratio you should be able to make out. I see used ones going for $200-300 US. The refurbished ones are twice that. Have you called Philips directly yet and asked about a battery? You may also want to search on refurbished Iprontos and see what comes up. As for other remotes that are this flexible look around the web site I guess. Some of the new Pronto remotes might work but they are smaller (and of course they are made by Philips always a drawback). I think the 7000 and fully customizable and color. I have the TSU3000 and can do what ever designs I want, it's just B&W. I have gotten great prices on IProntos and TSU3000s on Ebay, just gotta wait a while.
It seems the powers that be have determined users are stupid and should have as little control as possible over the remote. The remote will just do it all by magic. With the success of the Logitech remotes it appears they may be right.

It may be worth contacting these people. I used them to get a fairly old Sony laptop battery re-batteried and they were excellent. Good email communications and a new-looking (and acting battery) for about $80. Outside chance for an iPronto unit...!

If you can save a lot buying in the US, and the US supplier won't ship overseas, open an account with FedEx. You can then mail the supplier the shipping forms, pre-filled out with charge to your account checked. FedEx will even drop off a shipping container to your supplier at no cost. Then all the supplier has to do is put the battery in the FedEx box, attach your shipping documents and call FedEx to come and pick it up. US suppliers don't like to ship overseas because the paaperwork is such a hassle. If you do all the work, shouldn't be a problem.

What is the battery spec, written on the battery? Can you identify the original battery with more info?
