I recently purchased an iPronto off eBay. When I received it and started using it I noticed that it crashed...alot. I asked the guy that I bought it from if he ever had problems with it and he told me that it worked perfect for him. He then said something that was kind of interesting. He said that he wanted it to have the current firmware on it for me so right before he shipped it to me he updated it to the 1.9.5. edition. My question is, is it possible to take the remote back to a early firmware version that is perhaps more stable. All I want is a good remote. I understand that it will still require the WIFI connection but I don't need the EPG or anything. I could really use some help on this because the remote is completely unusable at this point. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Hi airballwall,

try to do a "hard reset" ... search for it in this forum. 1.9.5 should be also stable!

However, there is no known way to downgrade to a lower version .....

What kind of crash is it? Sudden reboot? Freeze?

Best regards,

Kalle

Kalle,
A freeze is the best way to describe the crash. It doesn't seem to matter whether it is in sleep mode or active. On a good run, the remote will last about 2 hours. I was watching some basketball the other night and it worked for about 2:30 hrs before it locked up. After a freeze the remote will not reboot when I press the reset button, it just goes to a plain black screen. It will only come back to life after I remove the power or the battery pack. Many people in this forum said that the remote would freeze during the EPG update which would occur once every few weeks but this remote has not survived a single night. When I go to sleep it seems to be fine, but by about 3am it is deader than Dillinger. When you say hard reset, do you mean holding down the channel + button? Thanks so much for your help. I have worked on this thing for about 3 day and I don't feel like I have gotten anywhere with it.

Hi Matt,

try to update the firmware again. Maybe this will fix something?

Try to activate the EPG again (generate a new activation key at Philips website)

... well, I have no ideas anymore :-)

Best regards,

Kalle

I had a similar problem when I first bought my iPronto. It was fixed by replacing the WiFi card. It was a known problem at the time, and Philips sent new cards out to retailers. Try taking it up with whoever you bought it from. I bought mine from Letsautomate, and they sent me a free card. Fixed my problem, although I was led to believe that later firmware did not suffer from this one.

I had exactly the same symptoms. Very annoying to have to remove the battery to get it to reboot.

what happens if you take the battery out and turn it off when you go to bed? mine seemed to work fine if i only used it as a remote and let the epg go out of date or set it to a epg that doen't load ie ; different area so it disregards what ever it down loads.
