Hi,

Looking into getting a couple of NETX units, as they can be placed on the IR sensors of kit, and some of my kit has really poor IR.

My question is, are the commands available at the time the iPronto is powered on, or is there a delay. I note that the wirless icon in the LCD window takes about 6/7 seconds to appear.

Having to wait 6/7 seconds before being able to perform a function would be quite a pain, and could do without that.

Anyone able to verify this for me?

NetX commands are executed almost immedeately in less than one second, except when the iPronto has to wake up from standby.

Yes, there's a pause before the first code is transmitted. Once the link is established, each transmission is pretty much instantaneous until the iPronto is allowed to go to sleep. Then you have the pause again on wakeup while it establishes a wireless connection.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the replies.

As I never have my ipronto plugged into the mains supply, it goes into standby after 1 minute of inactivity.

When I press either the screen or the hard buttons, it takes about a second to allow IR commands. Are you saying that Netx RF commands are then not available for a further period while wireless connectivity is established? Can you confirm?

I do have the option of leaving it constantly powered on the mains, and mounting it on the wall, but won't the screen burn if it's constantly powered up?

I can confirm that as long your iPronto is awake, you will not find any delay of importance.

I think that screen burn was an disadvantage of older displays in the past century. I believe it's nowadays not an issue anymore.

Yes, that's right. Look at the little wireless symbol on your LCD display (next to the clock) when that comes on after wakeup, that's when Netx commands can be sent.

The problem is WLAN stuff :-(

If iPronto is asleep and you press a button .... it takes 5 -7 seconds until the WLAN connection to NetX is established again to send IR commands from NetX.

That's because of this damn WLAN stuff. I don't know why so many people love this?!

A direct communication using 2,4 Ghz frequency would be more efficient ... but no, it must be WLAN stuff .....

... with poor encryption (WEP ... bad). But I menthioned that already :-)

I agree with Kalle. Direct communication would be better, without all of this handshaking nonsense. But the fact is we haven't got that. This is what we have, and we're stuck with it. I find it workable, but irritating to have to wait sometimes.

Hi,

Thanks for all your replies. I have purchased a NETX and am going to configure it for the devices with weak IR receivers. Fortunately these devices are not the one's I use frequently, so the delay should not be too bad.

I'm also considering leaving the ipronto powered up and mounting it on a wall. I'll post a further thread to ask about wall mounting.
