Well, I was finally able to get through to someone on the Pronto team at Phillips today and got the following information. These are all from the tech I talked to.

1) The ipronto is no longer made, but is "supported"
2) The best place to go for ipronto support is remotecentral.com
3) They do not intend to enable any more features on the Ipronto, they were put on (usb etc) as a possibility.
4) They do not get alot of complaits about the ipronto.
5) The only firmware updates that will come out will be to fix things already enabled on the device that do not work right.

I guess unless we complain directly to Phillips we will never get anything else for this remote. I called the 888-486-6272 and got english speaking people the whole time (never have before, it shocked me) who knew what they were talking about. So, it seems they really are looking at this site, but that is not offical complaining I guess. If you call, (I did the following menu options, english, skip the number request, and then say assistance) state the problem and ask to speak to a pronto team member. The person I spoke to was very helpful and gave me this information. Don't know if I should put his name up though. I did ask if this was it for a MSRP $1600 remote and yep is pretty much the answer. I called about the ipronto buttons sticking and repeatly send out a signal with a NETX.

I also went to www.usasupport.philips.com and they had some ipronto information there. After a week, I got an e-mail back from the www.pronto.philips.com site about the ipronto that didn't even answer my question. Phillips has moved on the 9800 I guess.

Hi!

I think it is time to get some people interested in ipronto and they know how to program linux.

I am convinced ipronto could be a realy cool:
- webphone (skype)
- webradio
- mp3 player
- ...

Read the threads in this forum. Philips is not interested in feedback of iPronto users ....

They are also not interested what products they sold a short time ago.

Forget Philips.

To write progs for the iPronto you first need to open the system. And embedded Linux and this Java stuff is quite a bit more complicated than installing a Red Hat Linux on your PC :-)

Best regards,

Kalle

Hi milkman,

read the thread "ipronto hacked". The user mich seems to be the best what we have here :-)
(I read everything he post ...)

However, even if you can write a new java prog and even if you can put it on the iPronto how can you start it? And even if you manage to start it, how can you store it into the eeproms?

The user mich tried to trick iPronto to download a new iPronto software version from his own PC/notebook. But I am sure Philips built in some security to prevent this?!

It's a damn complicated project to start from zero. And we are all sure we don't get any support from Philips :-(

Best regards,

Kalle

Were the items not being used in the Ipronto, usb etc, promised, or just listed as options on the box? Anyone remember?

I just went and posted. I don't think forum complaining will work. I wonder if letter writing is the way to go? Did you notice some of the posts had been up almost 2 years with no answer.

Just out of curiosity, what was their response about the sticking buttons? I have this a lot. Nearly blew up my speakers with my PS2 last week!

The response was we don't get alot of complaints about the Ipronto, so there is nothing to fix. That's why we need a better way to make our problems known. Being a small community with a discontinued product only makes it harder for use no matter what we paid for the remote.

Well, if they make themselves so hard to contact, it's hardly surprising that there are few complaints!

phillips in the manual page 29 says under the title external connections
you can connect a headphone to the ipronto to hear stereo sounds.when you plug inthe headphone.you will not hear sounds through the ipronto speakers.
The mmc/sd slot and the usb port will provide you with even more possibilities with future upgrades of the ipronto software.
so the way it reads to me that they should provide us with a fully functioning remote or why bother in the first place putting these facilities on (probaly a sale gimmick)
