Last news about this strange behaviour of the iPronto, I went and took the risk to by another MMc card from Transcend, but a 128Mo. Physically it's the same card and I decided to try and guess what? This one is detected by yhe iPronto. A rapid conclusion could be there is a size limit in this version of the software. If it's the case I would suggest to Philips to indicate it.

I purchased a reader/writer for my ATP MMC above. Formatted, copied an icf file to it, put it in the iPronto, same error,"No MMC card detected. please insert an MMC card and use the refresh button" ..."
Maybe alainthibault above is on to it, mmc cards are limited to 128 MB and under?
Been nice if Philips had told us! ... See id I can exchange my 256 for a 128.
More to come ...

Here's what I've found so far:
Sandisk MMC(full size) 32mb, 64mb & 128mb:-all recognised by ipronto.
PQI MMC(full size) 256mb,1gb:- not recognised
ADATA MMC(full size) 512mb:- not recognised.

So maybe there is a 128mb limit ?

I ordered a 128 meg card. It would not work with my iPronto so I called Tech Support. I was told that there was no record of anyone having this problem and said that their iPronto expert would call. He called the next day and asked several questions. He had never heard of the problem. I sugested that he read this web site. He called back to say that it looked like there was a problem and that he was going to make the developement team aware of it. He also said that he would stay in touch while the problem was woked on. I have heard no more after about two weeks. I ordered a 64 meg card (both cards were "SimpleTech") which worked fine!!!!!

The world waits

Bobb ... email thread that proves Philips HAS heard of this problem. (I'm sure I'm one of many. Read from the bottom msg, up.

Recently you have asked us about: MMC card not working

Yes it should work, please return the card to your dealer for refund and try a different brand

We hope we answered your question satisfactorily.

With kindest regards,

P.S. Please keep this email complete when replying.

Please do a regular backup of your programming / configuration file of the iPronto on the PC.

I tried formatting both ways, no luck ...
The specs for the iPronto slot said ANY MMC card would work.
I just spent $35.00 for this card, can you forward $35 to me so I can tryanother brand?
Thanks, Chris

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for your mail.

If the iPronto is equipped with firmware version 1.82 and it still does notrecognize the card it might be a compatibility issue. Please try using adifferent brand card to test. Also please try to format to FAT32 as well asFAT16.

We hope we answered your question satisfactorily.

With kindest regards,

Recently you have asked us about: MMC card not recognised

Please update ProntoEdit and the firmware

Activation of the MMC slot
Now any MMC card (not an SD card) can be used to transfer files from andtothe iPronto. iProntoEdit has 2 new items:
Export To MMC and Import from MMC to make this possible.

Detailed howto can be found in this MMC addendum manual:

You know it would all make our life easier if they would just release what cards work with the ipronto. Maybe I'm just reading to much into that response you got from philips but if the ipronto can read fat32 why would you suggest formating to fat16 unless you knew it had some issues with fat32.

I bought my MMC online as I couldnt find a local store that carried true MMC cards... only SD MMC and RS cards.. and if they expect me to pay money to keep trying different brands until it works they better be willing to pay for my shipping cost. Better yet.. just fix the damn thing.

Haven't tried it myself yet, but it definitely
says that it only works with MMC cards, not SD
ones! If your 512 Mb card is MMC, and still doesn't
work, perhaps there is a size limit on cards that
it recognises? I know that happens sometimes,
but would be surprised if an item as new as iPronto
has a limit. I once had a digital camera that
wouldn't recognise cards greater than 256 Mb.

Um, I has an old Digital Camera that couldn't recognize over 8Mb ; ) It also boasted 850K pixels on the side...
Thanks,
Phil-bert

Well that's older than mine was obviously! The point I was making was that some electronics have a maximum size that they will recognise, regardless of whether the card is the correct type or not. For example, not every Compact Flash device can read a 1 Gb Compact Flash card. However, if this problem was as simple as that, I'd have thought Philips would just come out and say it. At one point it was looking like the limit was 64Mb cards, but I see someone has a problem with a 32Mb card now, so perhaps the size issue was a red herring. As I said, I don't use this feature anyway, as my WiFi works just fine, so there's no point in me even trying this feature out.

I have an iPronto that is deployed in Singapore for trial. The trial has ended but I am unable to get the iPronto to retrieve the latest 1.8.2 firmware. It will only retrieve the localised trial version that is much older....

Anyway I can change some settings somewhere to get it to download the latest 1.8.2 firmware?

Thanks
