I'm sure this is a simple question, but what is the best format to save images as? I know that jpeg's take up a lot of room, but what is the difference between .bmp and .png?

don't know, but one big difference is that you can use alpha transperency with a .png

Simply, JPEGS are pictures encoded with a lossy compression alg, so they tend to be the smallest in file size but are inferior in quality to BMP and PNG.
BMP are uncompressed, arguably the best quality but tend to be large files.
PNG, halfway house with bells and whistles!! (one of which mentioed above!)

Ok, I have a ton of pics (Dvd Covers) I am trying to put on the remote and I didn't know what I should save them as in photo shop. I don't want to slow down the remote with too many files!

For DVD covers, nothing fancy, I'd say JPG with moderate compression.

PNG, I called Tech Support and they said that with a file like I am building in Photoshop, Save it as a PNG. Trust me I know first hand now after building a 23 page dvd menu with 8 dvd's per page and not working untill I converted the files from bmp. to png.
