Personally, I'd love to get an IPronto...but the $1000 price tag prevents that from ever happening. For my next remote I need a bigger screen than the current Pronto models offer. That's why I am considering a tablet PC with Remote software. You can get a used tablet for $300-800 and software for $30 that will give you all of the features of an Ipronto....and even some the Ipronto doesn't offer.

Take a look at Promixis' NetRemote at

I'd love to run this on a 8" or 10" tablet PC. It uses the same CCF file types as the other pronto remotes, can operate an HTPC via TCP/IP with a wireless card, can run Windows software, surf the net, and more. This is my ideal solution, though I think that setup would be alot less user friendly than simply buying the Ipronto.

I have been keeping an eye on the ipronto for some time now. Personally, I wouldn't get one for 2 reasons. First, there seems to be ongoing problems with the unit. As you stated, reading threads of current owners makes one think twice. Second, while I like the idea of a customizable universal remote & web surfing on the unit, but some of the newer products on the market offer much more functionality for the same price or less.
Just my opinion, and I understand that everyone looks for a product that fits their specific needs. I would sacrifice some remote customization capability for better web / PC /TV integration.

My replacement unit has worked fine now for some time... Still very happy, may look out for a 2nd hand spare on ebay or elsewhere....

I had early problems with mine, but it is absolutely fine now and the latest firmware makes it fit my requirements much better. I wouldn't change it for any other model out there.
