The information I have is that they have mainly been working on trying to identify and rectify the crashing / hanging / locking up that people have been reporting. The problem with that is that it has been affecting only a small portion of the iPronto's out there and has been an absolute bitch to nail down.

My understanding is that the stability of the unit is their priority at the moment but Ill see if I can find out more.

It's a shame that 18 months after the iPronto came out they are still trying to debug the unit. Also I saw that Philips was planing to cut back on there less then profitable lines. That could be the end of a product that has not lived up to its original billing. To bad iPronto has the making of a good remote just be management has stop it from be what it should of been.

I think that's pretty unlilkely given that there's already PDA remote software out there...

...the whole point of the Pronto/iPronto line is there is nothing else that does the job at the pricepoint.

It's a shame that 18 months after the iPronto
came out they are still trying to debug the unit.

I can understand what you're saying and yes it would have been nice to have had a bug-free product from the outset but I would assume that the iProntoTeam is a very small group and aren't exactly one of Philips main moneyspinners. Certainly since the unit was launched in the UK then as a dealer we've seen Philips consistently working on any problems that we have been reporting back to them and as far as I'm aware pretty much all of the major bugs have been ironed out.

Also I saw that Philips was planing to cut back
on there less then profitable lines. That could
be the end of a product that has not lived up
to its original billing. To bad iPronto has the
making of a good remote just be management has
stop it from be what it should of been.

My information is that the iPronto will continue to be produced, supported and developed and I understand that there is an evolution roadmap for the unit that extends beyond 2005. Of course I'm not Philips and I don't have access to their internal plans but hopefully the people that I do know there are giving me good info.

I am a new iPronto owner. I have to say I had to buy it earlier, i like it a lot. But what kept me from buying the iPronto is that Philips is very limited on news and development. The website has at the News page information of 2002...

Either I am going to regret my expensive buy by the surprise of something new, or Philips just slowly lets the product die?

That I bought the device is because I hope not. So if Philips and the ProntoTeam would like to have more buyers, keep updating news and info, both here and at the pronto website. Potential buyers are probably as cautious as I am, was that is.

Now that would be nice but I can't ever see it happening as the iPronto has no base contacts etc. Massive oversight on the designers part, but old news now, unfortunately. I think we'll all have to wait for an iPronto replacement, but probably not in my lifetime :)
