Finally the extender has appeared on the Philips site. Hopefully this means it should be available very soon now. Can not wait to finally be able to fully use the Ipronto. Anybody seen one yet?

Could you ship one to the UK? Would be interested in getting hold of one anyway.

Sorry- I am just an early adopter- not a dealer!

Can you let me know which dealer you got it from. Also when you have got it running how you find the unit.

Good luck with it.

the NetX is pretty cool: there are several steps to get it talking to the iPronto:

-download latest firmware to iPronto v1.4.8
-download latest editor v 2.1
-establish communications between iPronto and NetX:
-this did not work at first: I unpluged the NetX power supply, tried again, and it worked
-upload the icf from iPronto to editor
-select a device from the tree view and a tab will come up with the RF option: select it and enter the name of the NetX you want to use: and tell it to find the NetX; works well
- you are given the option of IR OR RF (not both) per device
-the NetX comes with 4 dual IR emitters and the box itself has an IR blaster
-the box has a single status light LED

more:

- connected a NetX IR output port to an input on my xantech connecting block input: the RTI IRF-6 is connected to another input: they both work with no interaction problems

-works nicely: one immediate advantage of the 802 communication is no IR noise normally seen with IR systems or some IR/RF repeaters : the NetX eliminates the need for any IR eyes in my system

- so all I have to do is toggle selected devices to RF in the editor to work through the NetX/my existing IR emitter system

-the NetX is a huge step forward for the iPronto

Can the NETX be controlled from a PC rather than an iPronto? Are there any utilities that run on a PC that emulate iPronto?

I'd like to control my rf components over a WiFi network without having a PC in the same room as the components.

Sounds like something for Philips or some third party to get into... as the NETX seems unique in its price range.

I'm glad I'm not the only one to have thought about this! I remember posting months ago on avforums asking if anyone knew of networked IR. Not as great as having network connections in every bit of AV kit admitedly, but a nice step forward.

Being able to control AV equipment from a browser interface (using PocketPC or TabletPC or whatever) over a network connection is going to be HUGE.

Personally I think Philips have missed a trick here. Rather than actually marketing the iPronto, they should have developed and licensed the software that runs it and made it available for multiple platforms.

One of the things that could well put people off spending £1000+ on the iPronto is if they've got perfectly decent WiFi enabled devices already (although to be honest, I'm probably going to be getting one anyway!).

There is some good news on the horizon though - the 802.11>IR bridge technology used by the NETX is actually licensed by Philips from a company called Open Peak.

The relevant press release is at [Link: openpeak.com]

Another potentially interesting press release,
[Link: openpeak.com]
clealy hints that other 802.11>IR bridges are due from OEM's in the near future, that will not necessarily be locked down like the NETX. Mind you, I doubt it will very long before some bright spark works out how to control the NETX from any PC, rather than from the iPronto itself....

For those interested in IP addressable interfaces, look at Global Cache on the web. They have been around for sometime now.
