I don't know how many of you know this, but in Europe (I'm a brit in America right now), we have a cabling system called SCART, which is a single connection that carries stereo audio, and either video, s-video, or RGB depending on the capabilities of the equipment you use.

It also has a control signal, so for instance when you switch on a VCR, cable box or DVD player it automatically switches to the right input, and switches back again when you turn the equipment off. I know that HDMI can also carry a control signal like this (only took 20 years for America to catch up, and don't even get me started on NTSC ;) ).

Anyway, what I'm interested in is how the Harmony would cope with that. With SCART it's not an option, it's just automatic, so you can't turn it off. Would the Harmony be very, very confused? lol

(by the way, no offence is meant by this post, sorry to any easily offended Americans :) )

Shouldn't be a problem. You would just tell the harmony not to switch inputs on the TV which you could do - worst case - by giving it bogus IR commands for input selection or by just telling it that every input device uses the same input. If some need it but some don't and you have discrete input commands then it should be ok, also.

If some of your devices are SCART and some aren't AND you don't have discrete input commands that might be a problem.

Just to clarify a little. The Harmony will get confused if a device switches inputs spontaneously. (After all how is the device going to tell the Remote which input its on?)

However, If there are discrete codes, it doesn't matter how confused the remote is as it will simply tell the device to switch to input X (as opposed to only being able to tell the device to switch to the NEXT input.)

I'm using currently a 688 (waiting for my 676 to arrive) and it handles SCART without a glitch. :)

And no my TV does not have discrete codes for input selection.

How are your devices connected?
