I have a new 890 that I am setting up with a Sony R60XBR1 HDTV, a H/K AVR635, an SA 8300HD DVR, and an Oppo 971H DVD player. I've programmed the remote for the 'Watch DVD' activity, and my issue is this: it takes the Oppo about 10 seconds or so to completely boot up and be ready to play discs. In the current activity sequence, the remote turns on the TV (unless it is already on, of course), turns on the DVD player, turns the AVR to 'DVD' input, and selects Video 7 on the Sony (the HDMI input I am using for the DVD player. The DVD player actually outputs in DVI, so I am using a DVI/HDMI adapter to make the connection). The problem lies in the fact that I believe the TV changes too quickly to the Video 7 input (before the DVD player has a chance to completely boot up), since I get nothing but a black screen once the DVD player boots up (I can hear the DVD audio, which is outputted directly via coax optical to the AVR). If I cycle from Video 7 to another input on the TV and back to Video 7, then the picture from the DVD player comes up. It is as though there is some handshaking or synching of the signal from DVD to TV that is not occuring in the present sequence, which I presume or interpret to be due to the fact that the DVD player needs to boot up completely before the TV switches to the Video 7 input (in other words, the DVD player isn't ready to 'talk' to the TV until it goes through its complete bootup cycle, and if the TV goes to that input too soon, then the synching or handshake doesn't work). Has anyone else ever experienced this? I've send an e-mail to Logitech to get an answer but have not yet gotten a reply. It seems as though a simple fix would be to have the remote delay the change to Video 7 until the DVD player boots up completely. Of course, in the event that I am not watching TV first (i.e. the TV already powered up and on a different video input) but rather selecting Watch DVD from a fully powered down state, then the scenario is slightly different as I would want the DVD player to start first, power up completely, and then have the TV power up and go to Video 7. Help!

Try giving the DVD a 10 second power-on delay and the TV a longer power-on delay (say 15 seconds). That should give the DVD enough time to get ready for more commands and prevent the TV from going to video 7 input until after the DVD is ready.

You are right about the dvd has to be on so the tv's hdmi can talk to each other. It part of the firmware used for hdmi. It's being corrected with the latest firmware update.
Check with Sony if your tv's firmware can be updated.
If not you are going to have to put input delay, so dvd boots up.
I have used the add more command, to change input to video 1 then back to video 7
It's a trick but it works.
Let me know how it turns out
