I have a Harmony 628. Already programmed the remote for 4 devices, but I need to reprogram some actions. 2 main problems:

1) When I press "Watch VCR" I want to have the TV turned on to channel 2, the VCR turned on, and the TV/Video button pushed on the VCR. How do I re-program the Harmony to do this?

2) When I press"Listen to music" I want to just turn on a DVD player to play, but the Harmony insists on turning on my TV too .. any way to keep the TV off?

Thanx.

An activity is a unique set of devices and input selections and/or other settings. You set up an activity by definining which devices are used for which functions and which input is needed. Each device has it's own settings for power and input selection and the harmony will use that to figure out how to turn each component on or off and select the right input.

So the answer to #1 is to define a Watch TV type of activity called Watch VCR, include the TV as the display, the VCR as the set top box (channel selector), and if you're using an A/V receiver add that as the sound device otherwise use the TV for both display and sound. The VCR device should already be setup to have 2 inputs - TV and Video using the TV/Video button as a toggle. This activity should use the Video input on the VCR and the Tuner input on the TV. In the startup for the activity you should send the commands to select channel 2 or if you have a discrete input command to select the tuner you can create a new input called Tuner VCR which selects the tuner and sends the command to go to channel 2. Then you can just use this at the TV input for the activity. The watch TV activity lets you select a starting channel but in this case that would apply to the VCR, not the TV tuner since the VCR is the channel changing device.

For #2 - you included the TV in your listen to music activity. Just delete it from the activity.

Remember - the harmony will turn on devices that are in the activity and turn off those that aren't, unless you select specific options to the contrary.

for #2 - The setup wizard does not allow me to remove the TV! .. keeps asking "To Listen to CDs, what input or channel does your Sony TV need to be on?" .. no option for nothing.

#1 - seems to be ok now.

For #2, it's looking for a "sound" (volume control) device. The only sound device it can find, is your TV. You need to add your A/V receiver (amplifier) device.
