Okay, just got this beauty 2-days ago. Very nice...

Questions are about the functions I had to program in my comcast remote.

The 30 second skip function for DVR needed to be set-up with code 00173 on the Comcast remote.

Do I have to "learn" the command on the 880 or is there any other way?

Another minor oops on comcast's part was if I'm out, DVR starts up, when I come home during the show the box is set to mute. This funciton also had to be programed with code 00141 on the remote and then assigned to the mute button.

All help is appreciated! I hate having to pound the Fast Foward button (4 times) during commercials...to actually get it up to a descent fast foward speed...

And I take it that the only icons that can be used are those located in the "themes" section...correct?

Thanks,

chAz

Those functions should already be in the database when you search for the 6412 DVR in the database. You might get more than one option so if one doesn't work try the other, but since you already learned those functions into your cable remote you can easily teach to the harmony.

Just go to that activity and select Customize>Change Behavior of Buttons>Learn Missing Command.
TIP: At the bottom you will click "Learn New Command" just be sure to title the command what you want i.e. Cable Mute before you click Learn New Command. By default is says "MyNewCommand" and will be saved as such if you dont change first.

Yes themes is the only place where you can get activity pics, but I was surprised to see they added a World Cup theme maybe they're making progress towards some more choices or allowing us to add our own.

The 30-second skip is already in the Harmony database -- no need to re-learn it.

The solution for your "mute" issue is well-documented -- simply never turn off the Motorola DVR. The problem only occurs if you turn it on when it is recording. Never turn it off and you'll not see the problem again. You don't save any electriciy with it turned off as the hard drive is always spinning anyway.

Can you list the location for that in the database?

Do I go to the custom button assignment screen and then assign skip from there?

Does anyone know if that is named "advance" and is defined to skip foward in leiu of ff...?

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

If I recall correctly skip is labeled as advance in the database, but you could name it and have show as skip or whatever you please.

Ladd, as far as never turning off the STB that is fine if it's in your family or other room in your house besides the bedroom otherwise the STB's display makes for a pretty bright night light, for some it is just easier to disable the clock and use a cable mute button.

I didn't say that your choices would be optimal, just offered the only one that would solve the mute problem.

Cover the light with paper or cardboard or cloth or tape if you want to ensure that you never have the mute issue.

If that is not acceptable (say, because you like seeing the display at times), than you will have to work around the mute issue when it occurs.

Unfortunately Motorola has ensured that it is either or.

Tough to completely black it out due to IR, Cable Mute is one button press for when it starts to record from an off state. Either solution would work for chaz15, it's all preference I guess.

It's all good, yeah it was called Advance. That does the skip 30 for me just fine.

I just assigned the Mute on the main screen of the LCD just in case it ever happens. Easy fix.

thanks for the help!
