How does motion sensor actually work from an OFF position? Does the 880 automatically goes straight to the list of activities (Watch TV, Watch DVD, etc.) the moment I pick it up? Or is it a 2-button sequence (ACTIVITIES button, then corresponding lcd button)? Can this be customized?

The tilt sensor simply turns the screen on. From OFF position, when you pick it up you go straight to the activities. If you're already in an activity, it just turns on the backlight.
