I have a Harmony 880 that I use to control both a Toshiba TV and a Sony video projector in my system. The TV does not have discrete power controls.
I'd like to generally turn components off when not in use, but when I'm watching a DVD on the projector, I'd like to be able to switch to the Verizon Fios cable box without turning off the DVD. (My Panasonic XP30 DVD player does not automatically resume where it left off.) For example, if I switch to watch TV for a few minutes, I'd like to be able to come right back to the DVD.
My partial solution is that I've set up the remote for the DVD on Projector and TV on Projector activities to leave on components not in use. This way, I can switch back and forth without losing my place on the DVD. But if I watch first on TV, and then switch to the projector, the TV remains on. I'd like for it to be off when the projector is in use. If it had discrete controls, I'd always issue a PowerOff command to the TV when using the projector, but I can't do a PowerToggle because sometimes I start with the TV and switch to the projector later, and sometimes I go straight to the projector.
Can anyone help me with a work-around? I figure I can use a PowerToggle at the end of every TV Activity (DVD on TV, Fios Cable on TV), but won't it turn the TV off and on every time I switch activities on the TV?
Thanks.
Thanks.

While I'm on the subject, I've got another question. I have a combo SACD/DVD-A player (Pioneer DV-45A) that is set up for three different activites: DVD playing (with TV on), CD playing (stereo inputs on receiver with TV off), and SACD/DVD-A (multichannel analog inputs with TV off). For all Activities other than DVD, my TV is set to Input 1, and for DVD, it is set to Component.
Some SACDs and DVD-A have menus. I'd like for the default to not have the TV on when playing these, but I'd like for the TV to come on initially and set to the component input and then shut off so that I can press one button to turn on the TV to see the menus and press it again to turn it off for actual listening. Otherwise, I'd have to turn it on and manually go to component input by pressing "Next Input" several times. My Toshiba TV does not have discrete inputs or power. If it did, as part of the start of activity, I'd do "PowerOn," "Input Component," "PowerOff." Can anyone suggest an easy work around to set the TV to component and then off at the start of the activity when no discrete inputs/power are available?

Now that I've played around for another hour, it seems like my best choice is to set the Fios DVR (Motorola 64XX) to "Leave on All the Time" and to include the DVD player in active devices when using the Fios DVR.

I think the answer to your first problem is to turn off the "leave unused devices on" flag and instead just add the DVD player device as a passthrough to your Watch TV activity. This way it will leave the DVD player on but not any other devices.
As for the second question - create two SACD/DVD-A activities: one that includes the TV and one that doesn't. Then just switch activities to turn the tv on and off. This will keep the tv power state and input state in sync with smart state (even with power toggles) and it will work seamlessly without any other manual intervention.
