What is the best strategy to employ these two buttons to enhance the control of my system?

I have the following devices.

Dish PVR VIP 622
General Instrument 4DTV Cband Sat.
Sony DVD/CD Jukebox
Iscan Ultra line doubler/vid. switch
Panasonic DVD recorder
JVC VHS Recorder
Yamaha RXV1 Receiver with sever sound field effects.

So far I have not programmed anything into the Sound or Picture Buttons

Appreciate your sharing how you are using these two buttons in your systems.

Thank you,

Henry

The main use for these is to add controls for your A/V receiver or Display (tv/projector) that won't easily fit on your normal activity buttons. Most people use it for sound modes or display modes which can have many different settings.

If you have a command that you want to put on these from a device other than the sound or picture device then you can always teach that command to your sound or picture device and it will be available.

If you don't use a lot of commands for your Receiver or Display then you may not even need them. I don't use them on my 659.

I agree - that's the beauty of the Harmony remotes, there is no right way and wrong way to use them. (Although there is an easy and a hard way.)

I have a 550 and I don't use those keys, mainly because it's just my bedroom remote - TV, STB and DVD/VCR. The only command I use for picture is to stretch the picture out when it's not an HD channel, so I use it often enough to make a custom key for it.

When you're in an activity, do you adjust the picture or sound a lot? If not, then you probably don't even need to use them. They're nice to have though.

I believe though that you can put commands in there now for any device in the activity, not just the display device or the sound device. Another thing to think about.

We have conflicting info on that. I think it may depend on the software version or remote model.

Just checked - you are right. You want other commands you'd have to learn them to your Display or Sound device for use in the sound and pictures modes.
