I have an 880. I am a new user. I am using version 5.2 of Logitec's software. Can someone tell me which buttons are which? I mean the list of buttons for a given device are grouped into what seems to be three categories. Do these categories represent specific groups of buttons on the remote? Example: Which group controls the buttons of the LCD? I have spent some time looking through the groups relative to the physical device and have not come up with a clear understanding of how they are represented in the software. Any help will be appreciated. thanks.

Not sure about the 880 software, but normally there are 2 modes of operation which each have their own button configurations: Device mode and Activity Mode.

Selecting an Activity puts you in Activity mode and you have complete control of the button mappings. If you go into your activity and choose "customize behavior of buttons" you can edit both the hard buttons and the custom buttons which will appear in the LCD window. In Activity mode you can map commands from any device in the activity, so volume can control the A/V receiver, channel can control the cable box, etc.

Selecting a specific Device puts you in Device mode where the buttons are dedicated to that device. In this mode you have access to all of the device's commands in the LCD window in addition to having them mapped to any of the hard buttons. Device mode should only be used to test commands or to find a command that you use infrequently. Any device commands you use often should be mapped to an activity button so you can access it without leaving the activity.

If you're in an activity you can switch to Device mode and then return to the activity by pressing the Device button again twice.

This was a big help in understanding the "overall" function of the remote. I have not been able to reliably program keys but I am tenacious. Thanks for your help.

It is different and until you understand those nuances it can be frustrating. Harmony has never done a good job explaining this to new owners.

Are you asking how the button labels relate to the picture of the remote (when customizing buttons) ?
