Hi All:

I never noticed this before, so hopefully someone knows how to correct it. I've got an 880, with a Scientific Atlanta 8300HD-DVR from my cable company. I always thought the box just responded slowly, but I installed an eyeball IR receiver (with the equipment in a closet) and it flashes when it received IR commands.

Once I could see the flashing, I could see the problem. On certain commands I notice a large delay between the time I hit the key on the remote and when it's actually sent. The strange part is, this only happens on certain keys. The play and stop button have the delay, but the rewind, FFWD, and other buttons don't.

Has anyone noticed this problem before? I'd like to avoid learning the commands from the original remote but I may not have a choice, and that may not even solve the problem. I'm using the database codes.

I hope there is a simple solution.

Does this delay occur when you use the DVR in an activity or does it also occur when in Device mode?

Try adding a 2nd DVR device and learn the problem commands to this copy and test it in Device mode. If it doesn't fix the problem then you can just delete the copy and you won't have changed your original setup.

I just got my 880 on Friday and have noticed the same thing. I notice it with my Bell Expvressvu 9200 PVR, my A/V receiver, and DVD player. All of the commands seem to be delayed a bit. I would like to know if there is a way to reduce the delay.

This problem has nothing to do with the delay or speed settings. I can be sitting watching TV for an hour, and hit the rewind button on the remote, and there is about a half-second delay before the command is sent. And it's only happening with certain keys, other keys that control the same DVR function normally.

The delay occurs in device mode as well as activity. I will learn the commands from the original remote, which doesn't exhibit this delay.

Wish me luck!

Learning the commands from the original remote did nothing. Any more ideas or do I have to call support?

The delay's in the 880 seem to be somewhat buggy (at least they were about a month ago when I did some testing). Even in device mode, the inter-device delay caused a delay between keypresses (in device mode there are no other devices). The delays just don't seem to do what they were intended to do.

I got tired of trying to get any kind of resonable answer from logitech support, so just set all delays to 100ms (other than power-on delays) and everything still works OK for me, but even with a 100ms delay some menus are still very sluggish compared to the original remote.

OT: By the way, why do the guys over in the "Custom Installers Lounge" forum hate the Harmony remotes so much?

One reason might be that it's so much easier for the client to program their own harmony (or make future changes) that they don't have to call the installer back to make changes (cha-ching $$$$).

I think it's also easier to have predefined Pronto configs that they can just download for each job without having to set up a customer account and go through the web interface.

There is a custom installer feature on the website but I don't know what it does.

I don't think it's the delay settings - I can sit watching TV for an hour without pressing any remote buttons and when I hit 'OK' there is a full 1 second delay before the IR is sent. It's happening on several important buttons - play, pause, stop, OK, menu, and more.

The thing that bothers me is that on other buttons that operate the SAME device have NO DELAY.

I guess a call to Logitech is in order...

You would think that if no key has been pressed in a while, that there should not be a delay. This however would be totally dependant on the firmware implementation. An intellegent algorithm would track how long it's been since the last keypress, a simpler but dumber algorithm would simply just add a delay before sending the command. There could also be issues on how quickly the Harmony responds after an idle state.

When I was having problems with timing, I found that the delay between keypresses was the longer of "inter-device" and "inter-key" intervals (this was even in device mode). I just tried different exaggerated settings to see what the remote actually did.

Someting tells me that the 880 firmware is still quite buggy, and that Logitech is not too interested in making any changes.

I experienced this exact problem with my 880 and my Scientific Atlanta 8300HD-DVR. I was able to fix it by adjusting the delays, and it is now just as responsive as the original remote.

For the SA DVR, I've got the following settings...
Power On Delay: 1500 ms
Inter-key Delay: 0 ms
Inter-Device Delay: 0 ms

Funny you should mention that... I called support, and he couldn't figure it out (kept putting me on mute and asking his manager), but while on the phone I went into my delay settings and did the exact same thing. Voila! It now sends commands immediately.

I do find it strange that these settings affected only certain keys - the FFWD and REW, Directional keys and channel keys all sent commands normally, it was just the 9 keys I use the most that caused the problem. Go figure.

Thx all for the suggestions, it is much appreciated.
