I want to make my Sony TV to be in "standard" mode when I am watching tv or a dvd, but to change to "vivid" mode when playing Xbox. To change this with the sony remote, I have to press menu, then go down to mode and select which mode I want. I want this to change automatically when I select the activity.

Is there any way to do this? I have looked through the IR commands that are listed under the device menu for the TV, but none of the commands look like what I need.

Any help??

Sadly, there don't appear to be any discrete codes for the different "picture modes" for Sony TV's. I too have a need for them, and I even opened a new topic with the discrete codes forum, although it's been a topic on there countless times in the past. Please post here if you (or anyone) discovers anything!

You could add the TV "PicureMode" cycling command (Vivid, Normal, Movie, Pro) to your LCD (custom label) but it is a cycling command (not discrete). You could also have your "Play Xbox" Activity send the command sequence to set the TV in "vivid" mode on Activity start up, and restore it to "standard" mode on activity exit by using the Activity Start/End macro feature. When you run the activity setup wizard, select the option that ask you if you want to add more control of options and devices for this activity. However, an out of sync will be a bitch to fix.

jlet--Thanks, I was hoping that there would be a discrete command. But, since there is not, your advice to make an activity start/end macro might just do the trick. I'll give it a try anyway.

Another method would be to add a "Fake TV" and under "Device > More Options > Adjust Inputs", select "I flip through the inputs until I get to the right one", then set the input names to: Vivid, Standard, Movie, Pro. Then select the "PictureMode" for the cycling command. The advantage of this method is that you can press "Help" to re-sync. Note: You will need a bogus power command (do nothing) for this "Fake TV" in order to invoke a power on delay.

Those are good ideas, but cycling though will most definitly get out of sync after a while. If I want Movie mode for DVD's, Vivid for XBOX360, and Standard for TV, switching activities in a random orders will switch it to the wrong setting after a while.
For what it's worth, I did map the "Picture Mode" button to the LCD, so while it's not the best solution, it's definitly functional.

If you use the "fake device" method, and tell the Harmony that the device remembers which "input" (picture mode) it is on, and that there is no way to go directly to the first input, then the Harmony will keep track of what input it is on and switch it appropriately as you go from activity to activity. It shouldn't get out of sync if all goes well, and if it does, you'll be able to fix it using the "Help" button.

If you use the Activity start/end macro method and switch to a standard mode on activity exit, then if it gets confused, all you'll need to do is switch to another activity and then back to the one you want.

Like Tgibbs said, with the "fake device" method, you'll be able to fix an out of sync by using the "Help" button. However, with the Activity start/end macro method, out of sync will be a bitch to fix. You will need to go into device mode to toggle the "Picture Mode" button. So you are down to 2 choices: Map the "Picture Mode" button to the LCD or use the "fake device" method. Your call.

I think it's best (for me) to stick to the LCD mapping...I don't feel creating the Fake device and all...I get it though...I just think the button mapping is easier (again...for me)..
Frankly...I'm just absurdly surprised there's no discretes....VERRRRY odd to me...
