Ok, hopefully someone has an answer to this.
I just got my 880 and basically going through the configurations and was wondering if there was anyway to do this easier..
Basically, I have been updating my remote over and over till I got it correct. When I have all my devices on and I update the remote, considering everything is on, I hate to have to shut down everything to just sync the remote. Is there anyway to sync the remote instead? Make the remote know that everything is on already?

Just point your remote away from your equipment (or hide its IR transmitter), and press the last activity you were on before you did the update.
