A friend is trying to get going with a Harmony 745 he got a couple yeas ago
but never used. After upgrading the software at the Logitech Web site he
was told he had to also upgrade from V0.8 to V1.0 of the firmware. This
turned out to be something that he could not do, even after coaching from the
Logitech tech support. They offered all kinds of theories such as antivirus anf firewall
settings, but nothing so far has helped. He can neither download nor install the firmware upgrade, so the 745 appears to be usless.

Anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions?

TIA

If Harmony support couldn't do it on the phone, we don't have much of a chance - but has he tried it on a different computer? Sometimes the USB can be a little picky.

Well, I give up; I'm the friend referred to in this thread, and up to this point, I've failed in every attempt to upgrade the firmware. I first used my desktop, shutting down my firewall and A/V protection as directed by Logitech Tech Support (Very supportive folk, I might add, although we weren't successful, it wasn't for them not trying by any means). I then hooked my modem directly to my laptop, bypassing my wireless router entirely and again disabling my internet protection. Same story-it gets to the point where it tells me what my firmware level is, asks if I want to update to the current level, I indicate yes, we go through another screen where it says to hit troubleshoot if it doesn't work, I do, it asks to open and start the program manually, it does nothing, so I opt to download it, I do-and it has a header only, no bytes in the file.

I hate to say how much time I have in this remote at this point-all I wanted to do was see how well the system worked, so I would feel comfortable upgrading to a new model. Don't think I will, if this is any example, although I'm at a loss as to what everyone else is doing so as to succeed.

Rats! I wanted it to work!
