Hi,

I have a Toshiba 42dpc85 monitor. I have a problem selecting the right video inputs. Unfortunately the remote that came with monitor does not allow one to specifically select a particular video input. You must scroll through each input until you get to the one you want - this is done by pressing the "input" button once for each input. Alternatively if you press and hold the "input" button an on screen menu is displayed and the current video input is highlighted and you can scroll up or down to get to desired input then press "enter". The monitor remembers the last video input upon power up. I can't see how to get to a known state and thus tell the logitech 880 remote how to select the right video input. There probably is a way to send an IR code to the monitor to get it to a specific video input (I hope anyway) but I can't find out. So I was hoping someone in this forum has "been there and done that". I can't use the learn mode because the monitors remote won't do it and the HArmony database doesn't have the codes. Help.

This is what the Harmony's Smart State technology is all about - remembering what state your devices are in.

From your Harmony member page, do the following:

  • In the device list, select the "More Options" link for your monitor.

  • Select "Adjust Inputs"

  • Select "I flip through the inputs until I get to the right one (usually for TV, VCR, etc.)"

  • Enter all of the inputs that your display has (in the order that they are cycled through when you press the input button)

  • If your monitor skips unused inputs, select Yes to this option

  • When prompted to select the cycling command, choose "Use these infrared commands" and then select the command that toggles the inputs (probably "InputNext")

  • When asked what input your monitor goes to on power up, answer that it "Stays on whatever it was on when it was turned off"

  • When asked if you can get to a particular input with your remote, answer no

That should do it. Afterwards, you can experiment with the commands available in device mode to see if there are discrete codes for selecting particular inputs on your monitor.

You are a gentleman and a scholar! That was the ticket. I was at that more options page but I had selected one of the other options. All is well. Thanks for your prompt response.

My Sharp LCD does the same thing (press "Input" to show the list of inputs, press it again to scroll through the list) but since it skips unused inputs, and since I only alternate between HDTV and DVD, I just went into RAW mode, created a new command consisting of three button pushes (Input, Input, Enter) and then changed my More Options|Adjust Inputs to the 'I push a secific button to go to a specific Input' ... Works like a charm - psuedo-discreet input switching, very fast and very reliable. Worth a shot ... ;)
