I have a harmony 680 that wont hold settings. I set it up when I first got it but have made some changes to my system since. Lets say when I got it I set it up for configuration A. Since then I got a new projector and lutron remote controlled lights and added that and got to configuration B. But when I setup configuration B I made a few mistakes that I tried to correct so I had several iterations of configuration B. First, I put a component video input button on my Watch DVD screen instead of DVI, and I put composite on Watch TV screen instead of components (these are soft buttons I'm talking about.) I also didnt have the lights integrated the way I want (via soft buttons and mapped to hard buttons in some cases.) Any way, after I fiddling around with all this and getting it how I want it, the remote keeps losing settings. For example, since i never use the "clear" button (down by the number zero) I have that mapped to turn the lights off under several activities. If I update my remote it works but if I come back a day later it wont. Also my soft buttons I talked about above (component and DVI inputs) keep reverting back to my mistaken ones (composite and component on the wrong screens). So what gives?!

Try updating the firmware. If that doesn't fix it then it may be defective. It's not connected to the PC when this happens?

I've updated the firmware and the Harmony PC software to the latest version. I called tech support today and they fixed it by accessing my info and then having me update the remote but I went and added one more bit of functionality and it changed when I updated it. I think at this point until I have undeniable proof, lets assume I'm imagining it that it changes on its on and only try to address the fact that things that I do NOT change get changed when update the remote. And, even though there is more than one thing changing, lets focus on one for the sake of argument.

I want about 5 or 6 soft buttons on my "watch TV" activity and about 10 or so on my "Watch DVD" activity. On each of those, ONE of the soft buttons is the respective input on my projector for that source, DVI for DVD and Component for TV (hi-def cable box). If I update the remote, ONE of those two will be wrong every single time. Either the DVD soft key will change to component or the TV soft key will change to either DVI or Composite. If I fix it, and update the remote, usually the other one gets jacked up. I tried adding component, composit and DVI to BOTH to see if that will keep it from getting jacked up. My next step is to delete ALL my devices and try starting over. If it still doesnt work its going on ebay.

Custom LCD buttons currently span activities - if a command is in the LCD window for a given device performing a given function (such as the TV performing the Picture function), then it gets automatically copied to every other activity where that same device is performing the same function. What you will have to do is add to the LCD every command you need from your TV in BOTH your Watch TV and Watch DVD activities. What you're doing by "changing" the input command in the LCD is basically making the change for both activities.

This "feature" was implemented by Harmony because users were complaining about having to set up the same commands over and over again in all of their activities, but the impact was on those of us who like to have DIFFERENT commands in the LCD for the same device in different activities. Apparently they are now contemplating making this a user option rather than a global thing.

Cool, I actually figured that out in the mean time but I greatly appreciate your response. I think that is not a good idea to make that global and hopefully Harmony will change it. To be honest I have been contemplating going back to a Pronto because if I'm going to spend anything significant (i.e. over $50) on a remote it better do what I want it to do. I'd rather spend even more and have it actually be customizable.
