I have a 520 and am trying to get it to learn a command to get into my TV's (JVC) service menu. I need to press the sleep button, after that I need to press the video status button and the input button at the same time.

I got my Sony AV3000 to learn the command, but I cannot get the 520 to learn it. All the 520 learns is the input portion. Maybe it is not learning long enough?

I go into the service menu quite a bit to change the aspect ratio when watching anamorphic dvd's to get a better resolution.

Are you sure that there isn't a more straightforward way to change the aspect ratio on your television? Going into the service menu (a land most consumers never venture into) seems like a lot for functionality that is so standard these days. Have you gone through every command for the television in device mode on the Harmony to verify that there isn't an aspect ration toggle or (even better) a set of discrete codes for each aspect ratio? Have you tried emailing the manufacturer or searching the discrete forums here for this information?

As for learning multiple button press commands into a single command on the Harmony, many users have reported success with doing that, but I don't have any experience in that field. If you can't find any information on switching the aspect ration in a more normal way, then hopefully someone else here can help you. And, as always, be sure to give Harmony support a call. They're more helpful than most customer support lines.

Do you still have the AV3000? Perhaps you can learn it from that, I'm assuming its on one key?

Are you learing in normal mode or RAW mode? (Under advanced in the learning menu.)

The normal Harmony learn is intelligent and does some analysis on the command so that's why its outsmarting you. "Stupid" mode is RAW learining mode - whiere it will just parrot what you do.

I double checked the TV commands in the device mode, but no luck. This is an el cheapo TV, so no aspect ratio control.

I did program the Sony remote first and then tried to teach that command to the 520. I haven't tried teaching directly from the TV remote because sometimes it is a little tricky to press the buttons exactly at the same time. And it is easier to get it taught to the Sony than it is the 520. But the 520 is so much easier in every other faccet.

I haven't tried learning in RAW mode. I'll try that when I get home. Hopefully that will work!

I tried learning the command in RAW mode and it worked perfectly! Thanks for all the suggestions.
