Looking for a remote, and I'm not sure if the 520 will do what I need or if the 659 would be a better choice.

Anyways it needs to control:
Samsung DVD player
JVC VCR
Sony Reciever - main reciever
2nd Sonly Reciever - using as a amplifier for 2 12" non powered subs
Optoma Projector
Hauppage PCTV card (not required, but would be nice)

basically after looking at the Harmony website, it looks like the 659 will control the pretty much everything, except maybe the 2nd Sony reciever (I don't have the Model No. with me, so I don't know if I can select that)

the 520 is not on there "test" drive site, so I don't know if it will work with everything.

thanks for teh help

Both remotes will control the devices equally good. There's no command that one remote can learn, but the other can't.

What it will come down to is personal preference . . . . which has a button layout you like, or which even has buttons you think you'll need. The 659 *I* think is a better choice. More hard buttons = more fun! :) hehehe

The only potential bottleneck I see is the two Sony receivers. Not knowing the models or anything, I'd just be worried that they both would respond to the IR commands. So, if you mean to turn one on . . . it turns both on, etc.

Go with the 659. I was told as a joke, that the 520 belongs to the plant family. It has so little memory that it has to be "watered" twice a day.

I own two 659s and recently bought a 520 as a Christmas present for a friend. I set up his 520 to control a Denon receiver, Samsung DLP TV, Zenith DVD/VHS player, and Sony receiver for whole house audio. I'm independently controlling the Sony from the rest of the equipment, so you probably can do the same thing, but I'd be careful about the Sonys respoding to the same commands.

They appear to have similar capabilities. I don't think the hard buttons are a "must have". The only thing I see missing on the 520 that I use on the 659 is the Media button where I have all of my favorite channels listed.

I'm not aware of a problem with memory. You probably can find the two remotes at approximately the same price, so the choice boils down to personal preference for button layout.
