Hi, I just got my 520 and am in the process of setting it up. One problem I seem to have is with the glow feature. When I turn off my system (I use the button at the top left hand side of the remote) the glow comes on and does not go off ever. Under remote preferances it is set to 10 seconds. While using the remote normally it functions fine. And when I turn off the system just by pressing one of the activity butons the glow goes out after 10 seconds.

This is a common problem. I haven't heard of anyone who fixed it yet however I did get a response from Harmony tech support. Here are the directions I got from Harmony tech support to fix this issue. I haven't tried it and the battery removal/insertion part is a bit ambiguous.

Sorry to hear that you are having problems with your Harmony Remote. Please follow the steps below to update the firmware of your Harmony Remote in Save Mode

1) Power on your Computer
2) Take out the batteries of the Harmony Remote
3) Hold down the OFF button on your Harmony before connecting it, then connected to the USB cable but keep the OFF button pressed down
4) The Harmony will power up and it will say on the LCD “Save mode requested”
5) Login to your Harmony Home Page (http://users.harmonyremote.com)
6) Click on “Support”
7) On the Download section click on Firmware
8) Follow the steps on the page to update your firmware, our system will say that you have the latest firmware but you can still update it again. The difference is that we are u[dating the firmware in save mode
9) After downloading the firmware again to the Harmony Remote you will have to do an Update to your Harmony Remote to download your configuration
10) When you get back on the Home Page click on “Update My Remote”

Note: If the above does not fix your problem please contact us for more troubleshooting steps.

Note: Make sure you disable all Internet security (Antivirus, Firewalls and Pop-up blockers) before entering your Harmony Account to avoid connectivity problems.

If you require any additional assistance, please contact our Support team, or visit our FAQ’s located on your Harmony member homepage, and clicking “Support”
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Let us know if that works for you.

This looks to be a firmware problem. I accidentally upgraded my working 520 with the same firmware it already had on it, 2. After the firmware upgrade I am now experiencing the same problem as you. Hopefully they will release a upgrade for the broken firmware they currently have avail.

Thanks guys however that link is dead. If this is an issue they should have it in thier FAQ's. It seems to be a decent remote but I have no manual, I think the software is poor, I had issues with it working with the security feature of SP2. It is so close to being a great unit with a little more effort.
Now is it the new firmware causing this? In that case disasters solution wouldn't work. I did put a support email into Logitech wewill see what happens. And is there a place to see the firmware release I have currently installed? My guess is probably not.

According to the techie it is not so much the firmware as how you upgrade the firmware. You have to be in battery save mode when upgrading the firmware. That is why they called out that battery removal step.

I went into battery save mode and did the upgrade and have the same problem still. Also have another small problem now that I didn't have before "upgrading".

My "new" problem is when I have the Show 'Starting Activity' screen turned off it still displays when turning the system off with the button to the top far left (power button).

The LCD w/o backlighting doesn't consume any power (think of how long a watch runs on its puny battery) - all Harmony remotes have something on the screen even when they're "off".

Logitech returned my voicemail today. They said that it was a software bug (not firmware!) and that they fixed it today. All you have to do "update remote" and the problem is fixed.

BTW, my voicemail was returned in about 20 hours. Not bad!

Well My problem of the backlight staying on constantly when I turn my system off is fixed. After I few back and forth sessions with Logitech's tech support they sent me a replacement unit. It seems to work fine now. The only thing is that I had to send the old unit to Canada and it cost me $7.00 to send it. Next time I think I'll just return it to Wallmart. But I am happy its fixed.
